Trailer tires vs. LT Tires on Travel Trailer

McKinley Custom Conversion

First off I apologize I am starting a new thread on this but I am on the road and this is kind of an emergency so I am looking for a quick fix it.

I had an issue with my trailer door crimping the wires and I grounded them out on the frame. Fixed all of that, now I have no rt brake/blinker. I traced all this out to the TICM and can't do anything there. I jumpered my rt blinker to the 4-pin connector and I now have rt blinker and run light. no brake light. Question is , CAN I JUMPER THE BRAKE INTO THE SAME CIRCUIT LIKE I JUMPERED THE BLINKER so I can get blinker and brake? I am 3000 miles away from home and need a good fix fast. 180,000 on the truck so no warantee and I hate and don't trust dealers.

I was under the impression that the 4 pin connector was the same circuit as the 7 pin connector and they just y'd off the wires from the 7 pin to the 4 pin... . if that is the case than there is something wrong with your 7 pin...

If I was 3,000 miles from home... I'd open the rear lights on the bed of the truck and install a set of jumpers off of that... . LT, RT, Tail, and BU lights... . I'd run these wires to a set of relays and power from the battery... . there is enough extra current available from all these circuits to power a set of relays in the back of the truck ... ... I'm guessing the whole parts bill might be $30-$40 bucks... . but you'd be on the road and working...

On 2 of my trucks I've had to run an 8 gauge wire back from the batteries to the 12V hot wire on my trailer connectors that are in the bed and at the bumper to get the voltage high enough to keep my extra trailer batteries charged... . we picked up 3/4 of a volt when we made the change using a digital volt meter on the stock wiring and our installed 8 gauge wire...

Hope this helps. .

the 06 and newer truck monitor the blinker circuits and will shut off power to them when it senses a ground or over voltage. the only way to reset it, is by having the dealer clear the codes in the tipm module.

and no you can't wire the brake lights into the blinker lights because they run on different circuits and would really screw with the circuits.

I imagine you could get away with it if you used Diodes to prevent voltage from flowing backwards into the other circuit... could be wrong though... sounds like it would be easiest/quickest to just have the dealer clear the block though.

yeah thats what im thinking about doing maybe, put first im gonna put some 10-15 amp fuses in the trailer wiring so that they will blow before the computer sees 20amps

Well I gave it a try today and it is working. I jumped the rt blinker into the 4-plug connector and then jumped the brake also into the 4 plug connector. All lights are now working, If there's no further problems I may just leave it, if there are I will try the suggestion for the direct rewire. Thanks guys for the tips.

yeah they just clear the code and the tipm resets, but if the problem happens 3 times the tipm needs replaced, make sure you get the update done on the tipm also.
