Does the "5. 9 Cummins Diesel Truck Powertrain Diagnostic Procedure Manual " have any procedure about rebuilding the engine, injection pump, or trans, or is it just for diagnostic prodecures?

The power train diagnostic procedures manual is mainly wiring related.

The is a seperate manual for charging and speed control. All wiring agin.

The full service manual has the rebuild sections. It covers all the drive train and engine. But not injection pump.

There is a 4th manual that lists all the TSB's from Dodge for all the models for that year.

I have all 4 manuals.

The CD manuals I have, a '98 from Geno's and a '06 from e-Bay, are both pretty comprehensive. They show engine assembly and reassembly methods and specs. as well as for nearly all other systems. I've done my own repairs for 40+ years and these are as good as any I've used, from Chilton's and Haynes to factory service manuals. Yes, there are some that cover more specific systems but overall, these will meet virtually every need.

Now I have another question, does the cummins manual offer more information about the engine than the Dodge service manual? Does either one have more information than the other about the fuel system? I am using this engine in a truck project that I am working on, so I really have no need for much information about the pickup itself. Thanks again

If you are just interested in the engine, either a Cummins manual, or its twin, the diesel supplement (not sure when, but they were combined between 91 and 93) to the Cummins Dodge Ram. Neither covers the VE pump, but that info can be had if you know whom to ask ;). It covers the rest of it, including some alternative repair methods.

The Cummins manual is not what you want. I have The Cummins manuals as well as the FSM's. The Dodge FSM Diesel Supplement is what you want for rebuild info. They were seperates early on and combined later from what I understand. You had the FSM and the Supplement, Cummins manuals are operator manuals ans service related, oil changes etc. IMO they (The Cummins Manuals) are a waste of money, with the exception of the Part Catalog. The Power Train Diagnostics is a diagnostic manual only, elect. and computer etc.
