Yesterday I was pulling some stumps out of my new lot that the dozer forgot to get. I dug a large hole in front of the stump and then yanked the stump into it. I used my truck and a 20 foot by 4inch wide nylon strap (NO CHAINS).

After I pulled 2 of the 4 stumps out I got to thinking, what if I hit the strap a little too hard and the air bags go off. Is this possible, or do you have to be in a major collision for them to deploy???

Another question, if I go searching for an "air bag fuse" somewhere, could I temporarily remove the fuse and if so will this disable the airbags while I am pulling???

Any comments or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Tplasek,

Im my years of doing collision repair our shop found Rams have one of the least sensitive airbag deployment systems made. We had 5 different trucks come through that had been totaled, some so bad the motor was shoved back into the firewall and the t-case was drooping from bottom of the truck after being ripped from the crossmember and all of them had good bags. I would also advise against pulling any fuses or relays. A lot of things have to happen in sequence to blow an airbag, so you should be safe for stump pullin'. With my luck the next time you pull one it'll blow and mame you for life  All kidding aside, the clockspring and sensors shouldnt be sensitive to what you're doing. Hope this helps.

I can vouch for the unsensitive sensors, my trucks been hit 4 times, I've pulled lots of trucks out, along with pulling down a barn. Nothing has set the things off yet.

Morph.

You guys have helped to ease my concerns. At the time, I never thought about it. This is my first time I ever pulled on anything with an airbag equipped truck. I didn't even think about it at the time, but after the second stump, I realized what I was doing.

I'm not pulling that hard to get them out. The soil is very sandy and there is no real impact on the truck when I gently "bump" the stump, I just didn't want the truck to think the stump was another car that I was hitting.

Once again thanks guys...
