I'm preping my truck for an aux. tool box/fuel tank which should be here someday...

While I was under the truck checking the filler neck lines, I saw one line which looked like approx. 1" in dia. and the main filler hose, 2" or so.

Also there was a small vacum type hose with the two others that seemed to go nowhere.

What is the small vacum type hose for???

Is the 1" approx. dia hose a overflow from the tank? If so, would there be any problem with using it to put fuel in the tank from the aux. tank.

I dont want to tie the aux in the the main fuel line etc.

Thanks in advance for the help. Ed

You must have bought the truck used, the vacuum type line most likely is connected to the tank vent,I've never seen one on a stock rig,but it seems like a good idea. The small line (1/2"id) next to the fill tube is an overflow and an excellent place to tee in the the line from your aux tank.

I tee'ed into the that vent line for my aux tank and it works great. I cut it so the tee was quite a bit higher than the main tank so fuel would flow better, and used a 1/2" copper tee and soldered a threaded fitting into the side port and the ends slipped right into the vent line.
Good Luck

Thanks. It may have been your post, Deezul 1, that gave me the idea about aux. tank to overflow.

I was reading some posts on tanks. . Read so many, cant remember who wrote what!

But i liked the idea of putting the fuel into the main tank myself.

Now if I get real cocky,I'll get the new, soon to be released Transfer flow 60 gal. OEM replacement and have 120 gallons!.....

I think 95 gallons is enough for me. #ad

Hey Bug, you are gonna have to run two lines from the aux. to the main tank, a fill line and a vent, otherwise it will airlock and take forever to transfer. You can remove the filler nozzle from the fenderwell to work on, just three screws and loosen the hose clamps. I brazed 3/8" pipe couplings on the filler nozzle and the vent tube and used 3/8" pipe to 3/8" hose fitings in them to tie the hose into. I also put my outlet line and vent on the top of my tank so if I ever have a leak I can shut it off, I use Stewart-Warner fuel pump to transfer but it will gravity flow with the proper vent, also installed an inline filter before it goes into the main tank, saves the expensive one as you will get some rust from a metal tank, still have to have a valve to shut it off, got mine at NAPA. Sorry for butting in, just trying to save you some headaches down the road. bg
P. S. I can drive 14 miles from where I live to a Flying J truck stop and fill up for $. 25 a gallon less than here at home, I filled up here back in the summer and it took about 110 gallon, I think the bill was $158. 00, when I went in to pay, Omar said, "wow, that's the most fuel I ever sold to one person in my life". The down side is I have to float a loan to fill up now.

B. G. or others, since my aux tank is behind my shop and holds a 1000 gallons,I'm not real familiar with in bed tanks. When you fill your stock tank by gravity or pump from the aux tank what keeps it from overflowing?Do you just keep an eye on your gauge or will the stock tank just not spill out? This is just for my own info. Thanks.

As long as the fuel cap is tight, no leaks, if I leave the pump on too long it just pumps fuel back up through the vent line into the aux. tank. Of course if you let it gravity flow the main tank would stay full until the aux. was empty. I watch my gauge and usualy turn the pump on when it gets around a half tank, have run until the light came on though. bg

B. G. , thanks. . That makes sense. The tank I'm getting is aluminum,,. . I hope it does not rust.
I found a nice in-line fuel filter and fuel pump in Summits catalog.

Thats why i love this BB. Volumes of great info... #ad

All I need now is that tank. . And money to fill it.
