I own a 2004. 5 3500 sb qb 4x4 5. 9 cummins engine with the automatic trans and I have 132000 miles on it.

I now have to keep my foot on the brake when I come to a stop since the truck just wants to move on it's own and when I put the truck into gear such as from park or N to drive or reverse the truck just will start to learch forward or reverse, is this my torque converter going bad?

I don't think so.

Most automatic transmission cars and trucks creep if the driver doesn't keep his foot on the service brake pedal.

"tango uniform"... I think I got it. . :-laf

Anyway, how did your trans act until recently? As Dave Goerend explained it to me, the internals ( stator ) of the converter direct the transmission fluid to the other part of the converter, which then makes a hydraulic " link" to the trans. My converter was nearly shot ( 35,000 miles) when I brought it to him, and felt very mushy. My new, low stall converter wants to pull whenever it's in gear.

So, when you say that your converter is acting like that, it makes me think that it's not worn out like mine was, but something doesn't seem right if that's not how it's been acting the rest of the time.

Try calling him and ask if that is a sign of impending doom, I'm sure he could answer you.

Good luck.

Yep, the sprag clutch in the TC is going, going, gone.

Any time it lurches into gear or you have to do more than light brake pressure to keep it from rolling at a stop, given the idle is correct that is, its broke.

Time for a "good" TC. :)

Brown's Diesel in Riverdale if your looking for a local person to talk to. Otherwise, you cna but just about any one you want form Suncoast, Goerende, DTT, etc, and have it shipped.

Might want to have your pump checked also when the TC is changed, Some builders are saying the covers are warping and causing symptoms like a bad TC.

Sometimes its hard to tell exactly what the problem is until the trans is out.
