I realize with the stock turbo that I'll be limited to how much power I can make and how much fuel I can throw to my truck without EGT's getting out of control. So here's my question. I see some guys that just run like a Comp and run it on 5x5 (not towing) with stock injectors, then I see some other guys that like to run larger injectors and just leave the Comp turned to lower levels? Which is a better setup with the stock turbo and why? I like the way my truck feels with the Comp, but it doesn't have hardly any smoke and while that's great for normal driving I'd like to be able to smoke out some ricers if the need arrives.

I have 75 hp injectors and the boxes it smokes a bit at take off but clears right up and i like the ability to go from 200hp to 400hp with just a push of a button. it is nice to go from a light hue of fumes (when cops are behind you) to a full blackout behind you at 50mph. I would go with some mild injectors and your box that way it is versatile and you can watch your egt's mine are quick to rise if box is on full #9 but towing my boat and hauling all sorts of stuff i have had no probablems with my egt's if i watch them and turn down the box if hot. hape this helps

I used to run a set of 90hp injectors & had no problems with egts, but if I were you... . I'd buy a smarty. It has plenty of settings for throwing some clouds & better response than small injectors. It is next on my list of future mods. You will enjoy your truck alot more with smarty than just adding small injectors.

So you're suggesting getting a Smarty to run with the stock injectors? Will it stack with the Edge Comp I've already got?

What does the Smarty do that the Comp doesn't?

From what I've read, the Smarty/comp stack isn't the best stack. Don't get me wrong, I love my smarty and couldn't live wothout it :D I think a set of 650$ injectors will gain you more HP but the smarty will gain you way more responsiveness. Either way you will be pushing the turbo past it's limits without turning something down. Comp on 1X1 with 100HP injectors will be manageable to tow and a comp on 1X1 and smarty on SW2 will be manageable towing also. I'd say you can get way more smoke with the smarty over injectors.

The smarty fuels way harder than any other box down low, that is why it smokes so much on top levels if you floor it from idle. You can drive on top levels without smoke but you've gotta go eassy on the go-pedal.

Injectors are the smoothest power form top to bottom but they don't add much responsiveness.

I hope this helps,

John

The smarty was designed to run with timing boxes like comp or tst. Guys say that it stacks better with tst, but I tried it out with a comp & I couldn't imagine it being better than what it was with the comp. I think that you would be happier with the smarty than injectors. The small injectors don't really blow clouds of smoke, but the smarty/comp will.

I'm not sure that your stock transmission would hold with injectors. If you get smarty... You will be able to control it better.

I was overfueled bad with DD3's (100hp) and the comp on a stock charger. I picked up 80 rwhp going to the Dodgezilla charger and no fueling changes.

So I say go with 100hp sticks and run the box on lower settings... until you are ready for a new turbo. That way you only do injectors once. And if you want to do a major smoke show you can.

If you don't see a turbo anywhere in the near future, then just go with some real mild stuff like 275's. You can always turn the box down for EGT control.

with stock injectors, and comp on 5X5 you can easily control egt's and smoke output if you are towing turn it down to one or something and make it easier on your stock trans.

I have DD3s, Edge Comp, and a Smarty with my stock HX35. I used to run with the comp on 5x5 and it would get hot and I had to keep an eye on the EGTs. I leave the comp off now since I put the Smarty in. Less total power, but way more fun to drive. IMO, Smarty and DD3s are a good combination with stock HX35. It will still get hot if I let it, but by that time I'm going way too fast and have to back out of it anyways. I think something like DD3s (100Hp) and Smarty are an excellent combination.

Oh, I do not tow with Smarty on, but put stock SW in and run comp on 1x3. No EGT issues towing with this combo.

DD3s + Comp 5x5 with stock HX35 = 422Hp, 870ft/lbs last month.
