Attention: TDR Forum Junkies How does the separator work? I just changed my fuel filter at 5700 miles and when I drained it I collected about a peanut butter jar's worth of fluid. When the valve is opened does a mixture of diesel and any collected water drain out, or is it just water that has already been separated from the fuel? I expected water only, but when I opened the canister it made sense that whatever was in the cannister drained, and in fact the fluid looked to be all diesel fuel; I didn't notice any layering at all.
BTW, like others I had to add a length of 3/8"ID hose to the existing hose because the original wasn't long enough. I thought about replacing the whole thing with one length of hose that was long enough, but it has a memory and wants to roll back up.
I had noticed a slight drop in fuel efficiency and power and based on what I had read here that seemed to be the culprit. The inside of the filter was clean, but the outside was pretty dirty. I almost always get my fuel at the same Pilot truck stop, though I switch between the standard pumps and the high-pressure big-rig pumps, but I'm guessing the underground tanks are the same.
