Have you ever herd of a place known as marble hill? Ive had hunting access to this $2. 4B chunk of real estate. Anybody have any usefull or interesting info on the place? From what I've figured out, it was gonna be the biggest powerplant ever made. It was suposed to house some international nuclear commision.

Its pretty much trash now. The main building has flooded from rain to 10' below ground level. Almost everything usefull has been cut out of it and is now an empty shell.

I love all of the BS that comes out of there too. Like they hit a gold vein digging a waterline and ignored it beacuse it would have gotten in the way.

I have founds pics in the vault that look like they were of structural problems like rusty pipes and porus concrete.

Wayne, I'm surprised that you haven't heard what really happened at that place, but I guess you weren't around to hear about it back then. The plant was completed but had a major melt before it started producing energy. The government hushed things up pretty quick, but there was about two hours of news coverage at the time and a lot of people disappeared right after that. I heard that the contamination would take sixty years to dissipate. Has it been that many years? Are you glowing yet? The deer in that area must be strange looking.

This plant was never completed (only 20 percent complete) and it never had any nuclear fuel. The TMI (Three Mile Island) incident threw a wrench into the works of this place... Also there was massive cost overruns and accusations of faulty concrete in the containment structures.

Do a google search... . you'll find a ton of info. I used "Marble Hill Nuclear"

Original cost was supposed to be 1. 4B dollars..... it ended up to being 7B dollars when abandoned due to NRC petition denials and licensing difficulties.

Dont know about the nuclear commission rumor... . just looked to me that it was supposed to be just another power plant. Big of course.

:D

I wouldn't mind walking around that place..... lol I love glowing in the dark. Oo. Oo. Im also looking to see if this supposed major melt occured... . sounds like BS to me... but ya never know with our government.

Sounds like a really cool place to visit! Jeff24, where is it, exactly? I'm in Dayton and if it's close I might go see it one day.

Nuclear plants are intriguing

Back about 10 years ago a group of friends and I would go motorcycle riding south of Raleigh NC. The Harris Nuclear Plant is there and still operating. Back then you could actually go onto the grounds, right by the cooling towers, sit in a gravel parking lot and just watch the water cascading down from the cooling tower. The base is open and acts as a venturi, sucking in surrounding air which is mixed with the water spray and the hot water from the reactor cooling system. Those towers are huge! I'd guess we were within 100' of the containment building on the way out, which was past the employee parking lot and entrance to the plant and visitors center/office. We'd ride out right between the plant and the towers. Nobody would say a thing! We did this most weekends for years until someone finally politely asked us who we were and not to come back unless we had official business. Well it was fun while it lasted. A great "destination" on riding day.

On the roads around the plant there were painted lines across the pavement with mile markers. . like 1 mile. . 2 miles. . 3 miles.

I haven't been back there in years, and since all the latest terror-hype I'll bet there is a lighted, gated, manned 24 hour guard shack at the last fork in the road going to the plant. These days we can't be so trusting anymore.

Kinda makes me think. Back in the Cold War era with Communism the daily word and bomb shelters, air raid sirens and hiding under desks was a regular thing. Now nobody even thinks about that. I sure hope that someday SOON that this country can relax and bring all this terrorism/Bin Laden/9-11/Sadam/Homeland Security crap to an end and out of the daily spotlight. Sure it will happen but it will probably be years before it does, and then only because something even more sinister will probably take it to the forefront of our daily lives.

well, part of me having access to this place is to run everybody that aint got permission off how ever I want. So, no visitors.

As far is cool info on the place, i have run across alot of conflicting info and complete BS. I'm trying to figure out where they burried the semi trailers full of equipment like welders, torches, hand tools, etc.

And Doc, the deer around there look like Moose, so they must have mutated.

The power transmission line towers for the plant used to run about a mile from my house. I remeMber when they built them in the early 80s about 7 or 8 years ago they finally took them down. the farmers were glad to get them out of their fields. Looks like it would be an interesting place. I never realized it was that close to completion.
