PDR HX-35 Question

I had a fellow TDR member call me last night. He was referred to me through Deb at Frantz Filters. He said he was considering the use of a Frantz Filter on his '96 CTD, but was unable to locate a pressure valve. He apparently did some research and spoke with Cummins, who he stated advised that a 20 psi valve should be placed prior to the inbound oil feed for the filter, to avoid the filter receiving oil when the oil pressure is below 20 psi's. I never heard of this before, curious as to your thoughts ???

I honestly don't think I've ever seen oil pressure below 40 psi's on my truck, do the 12 valvers normally run at lower oil psi's when warm. compared to the 24 valvers ???

I've used a Frantz bypass for close to 50 years now - never heard of such a valve! It IS important to make sure the installation materials DO include a restriction of some sort in the supply line to the filter to reduce flow rate to the low level these type of filters typically function under - mine is about 1/8 inch in diameter, and installed in the fitting as it comes out of the top of the stock oil filter housing on the Cummins. Some of the Frantz filter setups apparently were used in applications that didn't use the above restriction. With that setup on my truck, absolutely NO difference is noted in oil pressure from before the Frantz installation, even when hot and at an idle...

YMMV (and usually does... ) ;)

Thanks Gary, I feel better now, thought I might have missed something. I am aware of the restrictor fitting on the inbound feed.
