Question for HotShotters..Help!

A friend is retiring and is doing the HotShot thing. Can any of you guys recommend insurance companies he could call? His local companies are wanting A LOT of money for insurance! Please help the guy out, he deserves it! Thanks!!

Is this Hotshot'ing the parachuting into forest fires hotshot'ing?

Hotshotting is using your Dodge to pull a trailer commercially. There are several companies out there that one can lease to. I would check these out. Good luck. John

I am an independant HotShot. I find it pays much better not having to pay out a percentage of your load to a broker. Try Progressive insurance..... none are cheap by any means but progressive seems to be cheaper and has a better pay plan. Figure that insurance will run about $7,000 per year for one million liability and 100,000 cargeo coverage. I travel all over the state of Florida and have very little trouble finding loads.

Depends on what type of hotshotting you are talking about. If you are thinking RV transport or auto transport, maybe a million in liability and $100 k in cargo is enough, but if you are talking about general merchandise or specialized tools that probably won't be enough. The company I work for carries well over a million in cargo insurance and much more than that in liability ins. I've carried tools in the back of my truck that were worth between 1/2 and 3/4 million dollars. Like I said, depends on what type of hotshotting your are going to get into. Your friend might be better off leasing on with someone, just be sure he reads and understands the lease.

I guess it wasn't a good question, I ws asking about any companies any one would recommend to call about rates for Hotshotting. Pulling vehicles for dealerships from state to state, to narrow it down.

Talked with them a while back, if you don't have a 48 ft. trailer they aren't interested. That word came in an e-mail from their head of recruiting.

The company I use is Brown and Brown. They were the least expensive of the places I contacted last time I was insurance shopping - about two years ago.

For theft, physical damage, and bobtail liability I pay around two thousand per year. The company I am leased to covers the cargo insurance.
