Just curious to know how many of you reach down there and disconnect the cable on the brake arm when you're not towing. I know I do, But I was curious as to the life expectancy of the Potentiometer if you didn't. I remember Jordan himself telling me that they use the same one as is used in Nintendo game controllers and is rated for millions of actuations:eek: !

Kev

I noticed this feature on my replacement Ultima 2020 controller (the original bracket did not have the disconnect feature). As soon as I installed the replacement unit and checked function of same, I disconnected the cable until I need to use the controller again.

That may be some time for me as I don't tow very much. :D

As I stated in the other Jordan thread, I believe Mr. Jordan told me the disconnect feature was just that, a feature or option that you can choose to use..... or not. If I more or less towed all the time I would leave the cable connected whereas, if I towed infrequently ( :D ) or seasonally, I would disconnect the cable until its next use or when the towing season arrived. The first unit I had never had a problem with the cable remaining connected for over a year and a half or so.

Ever wonder how many times you step on the brake pedal in a year?

I disconnect mine when not in use. This was suggested by Jordan when I visited his facilities. It was expressed more with the idea of longivity of the controller rather than any thought to there being a premature failure.

I don't think it's likely to fail during the warranty period or any time soon with normal driving. However, I suspect that if you have high mileage but don't tow but a small portion of the miles, it would be a good idea to disconnect it.

One thing that disconnecting does do for you is it prevents the display from activating when you step on the brake when you aren't towing. Some have found it annoying and installed a power switch.

I guess it also depends on how often you tow (inconvenience) and how long you might want to keep the controller.
