After installing my new diff cover I noticed that cover will contact the spare tire (235x85x16) if and when it swings up. Has anyone noticed this and did you do anything to correct it.

Interesting.....

Never noticed that Bart, I'll give it a look later. Had mine for 6 years or so now - it's a super unit. One more reason for our trucks to NOT wear out !

Regards, David B

PS: Considering front cover, too !

I tried to loosen up the tire and tigthen it up while holding it backwards. Shoulda seen me trying to turn the handle while holding the tire rearwards :-laf Problem is the shortest distance between two places is a straight line. After tightening up the cable and letting go the tire fibrates back to the same location and is now loose. I know that when the diff moves it not only go up it goes back and this could be worse than it looks just sitting in the garage. I thought about installing a steel plate to keep the tire as close to the hitch as possible, but I thought I'd ask ALL you intelligent guys on this site. :-{} :-laf

I would have to squat the *** end of my truck a good 6-7 inches before it would start to touch the spare tire.

I have a 35 under the 05 with the big cover,I did have to pull it back towards the hitch to stay clear while off-roading.

I also run 235/85-16's, but don't have any contact problems between the spare and MagHytec cover. Try to loosen the spare down, and place a small object as a spacer between the tire and cover while you winch the spare back up. Then remove the spacer.

A lot of people have bolted a strap (wood or metal) across 2 of the lug holes of the spare so it would offset the carrier strap slightly and move the tire back.

I bought a ratcheting strap, tight around the receiver frame, and through the middle of the spare and tighten the strap while I raised it to the frame. Hasn't moved yet, it's been already a month. I think contact was an issue for the 2WD only.

All great answers. I too thought about running a steel strap from the hitch to a lug hole to keep it rearward. I like the idea of the ratchet strap until I can get the steel one done.

Thanks guys. 165,000 and climbing :D
