Ok, I just went to get my tires balanced, and they told me they could not balance them, as they were too worn down. I am looking to get some Alcoa 16x7 Classic Rims for my truck, but they told me I had to use the ALCOA lug nuts, and that my chrome 2½" monster lug nuts would void the warranty if used on these new rims... . Have y'all heard this? I need to know if he is just trying to scam me for more $$... ... someone please chime in!

The stock lug nuts would be real close to NOT fitting. The stock lug nuts are real wide & might touch the Alcoa center cap. That's one issue.

It might be that the taper on the lug nut is different between the stock lug nut & the Alcoa lug nuts. That might be the reason for his comment.

I do remember something on the paper that came with the wheels stating something about the type of lug nut to use with the wheels. I don't remember exactly what it was, but I do know the stock lugs are ok to use with them.

Some wheels are hub centric and others are lug centric. Wheels that are hub centric have the flange at the base of the lug nut. Wheels that are lug centric have the tapered base on the lug nut. Possibly the wheels are different.

When I ordered mine from south west wheel .com they did not mention anything and I ran with the stock nuts for some time... In fact I asked about the nut and cap package and they said it was not really necessary. So I assume it is ok.

I did go to the Alcoa nuts as I added the plastic caps for a cleaner look?

Both of the nuts were tapered and I did not think about how much. Sort of assumed it was a standard of some sort. Sorry I don't know the details but no one said anything to me, including the tire shop who installed the rims.

Alcola rims

I had Alcola rims on my 96 2500. The taper on the lug nuts was different than the stock rims. Changing to the Alcolas was the best thing I did for the ride in that truck. The stock rims could not be balanced due to the center hole not being centered and the runout of the center hold did not match the runout of the outer edge of the rim. Prior to changing to the Alcolas I had two sets of tires and three sets of rims in the first two thousand miles. After changing to Alcolas I got 53K miles on the tires.
