Yesterday at our clubs spring Dyno Event we had one of our members,Cumminsdieselboy, show up with a truck he had just bought which has left alot of us baffled. Its a 1998 2500 4x4 5spd Quad Cab SB Flame Red Sport equipped with the 24 valve motor. Now,I know as we all do that this may not be anything out of the normal routine as they started installing them in Janruary of 1998. What makes this truck a ?????? in everyones mind who seen it is this, its build date of 11/97 in St Louis. My 1998 is a 12/97 build date from the same plant and is equipped with the 12 valve motor so anyone got any ideas as we all were lost when we seen this. Its is also equipped with the 12 valve door badges instead of the correct 24 valve emblems.

This truck is was a one owner ride when he bought it,never wrecked and never had any changes done to the outside. To say that we had our minds taxed when we all looked at it is a understatement. I was even disputing it until I looked it over good and even after seeing it I am still confused. So anyone have any ideas, because those there yesterday didnt???... ... ..... Andy

Even though the 24v change over was 98 yr model The plant was probably starting the change over from 12v to 24v late 97. His may have been one of the first off the line & yours one of the last 12v to finish up that line. As far as the badging it may have been an oversite.

Well thats a good thought but all of whats known and whats been written shows they did not install any 24 valve motors before Jan of 98. This is not a motor swap truck nor a 24 valve head on a 12 valve bottom end. Its easy to tell its as it was when it was shipeed, except for the comp box which was added by the owner. I only wonder how many of these trucks exist like this one and if anyone has seen any or not?... ... Andy

i had a 98 - 360 and it had cummins badges on it on delivery ... When I saw it i wasnt going to say anything then i poped the hood and it was a 360.
