Question for those who used a 3rd gen engine in a repower project...

How much to pay for donor engine/trans/transfer case

Does anybody have the part# for a 4BT "Bread Van" manifold?

Do you recall which functions are not part of the engine ECU control that had to be addressed?

For example, grid heater operation? Is this controlled entirely by the ECU?

Lift pump operation?

I know some external relays will be required to actually power these, but is the control in the ECU or part of the dodge truck computer.

Any others?

Thanks again for all input...

Sorry I can't answer your question, but I have one of my own. What do you do about the drive-by-wire system used for the accelerator pedal? It seems to me it is a bit of a stumbling block. Could you just fabricate a cable to actuate what I think an electric motor does now?Good luck with your project it sounds like a good one.

Chris

pretty much everything is controlled by the ECU on the 04/05 motors, this gets pretty complicated actually, do you know for sure if the donor had anti-theft or not? these are a real joy to deal with..... but we can help if needed. (did you get ALL the wiring harness, TPS?) chris, the 05 with the drive by wire accelerator pedal cant be run by

fabricating a cable... . signals have to be correct, another nitemare, we will be doing a story on the 95 sub/05 325hp/nv5600 here in a couple weeks.

wow sounds like it would be easier to get an engine harness and cummins ecm. most of the chrysler software has torque management anyway, not letting the ingine to its full potential right out of the box

the computer that comes on the engine is the controlling ecm, it is a combo cummins/chrysler after 03 and yes you have to have the wiring harness that comes on the engine and the ones that operate the tps/accelerator - the pcm on the vehicle you are repowering is still the controller for the stock things, the difficult part is making these work togeather. you can turn up the potential of this engine the same ways you do it while it is in the dodge. for example, we put a banks high ram, six gun w/ speed loader (and always use their exhaust) on the sub just finished and it will climb right straight up a wall - it is an ANIMAL! (again the difficult part being making the cruise control, speedo work with the chev/ford computer so the banks can function).

The engine build date is around 7-16-03 I believe, it comes with all the engine wiring harness's and engine ECM but I don't think it comes with the TPS itself. How do you determine if it had antitheft or not? Can I call Dodge with the engine serial number?

What I'm after is finding out what engine related functions (if any) were controlled by the dodge pcm (not the engine ECM) so I can figure out if I need to purchase the dodge pcm and associated wiring. If it is not necessary, I may just use a stand alone transmission controller and avoid having to buy/modify the stock wiring harness's to the transmission and also avoid needing a dodge pcm.
