i am wanting to add 5" stacks to my truck... but the local diesel performance shop wants 825 for 5" stacks y'd in the bed and an extra 250 for y'ing it under the bed..... does this seem like a "normal" price for exhaust stacks? has anyone gone to say a peter built shop, bought the stacks and what not, and did it themselves? if so, how hard/easy was it? any info/input would be appreciated... thanks

stacks

I bought the parts and did it myself, and only spent $350 for them. I did it all in the bed. You can see them in my readers rigs gallery.

You can buy a complete kit in the TDR classifieds from Rob Thomas I believe. I built my own system and have around $500 or so into it.

Hi Folks

Just maybe thought you would like to know, There is a company out there (Called HotRod Diesel) that sells a complete stack set up for our trucks ( any year) It comes in a kit, 5" stacks all the elbows, pipes and joiners, with the flex pipe ( all clamps and flex are stainless) all pipes are pre cut, and it comes with complete intructions on where to drill holes ( you only cut one hole) and join the peices together, I mean it this is really neat, I ordered mine from there and installed them my self in about an hour, YOu just follow the step by step instructions and the detailed diagrams. They sell for around $600US$ including a 4" down Pipe! If your intrested maybe give them a call, 1 877 655 1234

Thanks

Hope it helps.

Do a search in the members list for Oasis-3(aka-Mr Mph,Dr Stackmiester) and follow his link to the stack building parts list. Cliff has his parts listed by Walker part number and they were purchased at Heavy Duty Truck Parts In Harrisburg,Pa. Its a easy install and about the hardest of it would be the hole saw to the bed. Cliff's stacks are about the cleanest looking setup I have seen. If you came to Fall Brawl either of the last 2 years his was the truck with the kegmiester on the back of it... ... ... ... Andy

I have spoken w/ Rob Thomas he seems to be a really nice guy. Give him an email @ -- email address removed --. Rob

propuller,

Why are you losing the stacks. What did you think of them when they were on? Been looking at doin mine also. Just worried about building an aux tank to go over them in the bed and the soot and slobbering problems I've heard of.

If you want some good looking and functional stacks, don't get screwed over by some local hick, or buy some back yard contraption, go to Stylin Concepts and get the real deal. They have want you need at a fair price, top quality and no loosers.

Are you calling me a LOOSER or a HICK?How can you say that when you have never seen my setup. Im not builing these to sell this happens to be a set on my truck that im no longer using due to the soot showers on my wifes car. They are funcional & very profesional by the way. They sound awesome & are just as nice as any that are mass produced. THEY ARE THE REAL DEAL. At only 400. 00 bucks there a steal. If you dont like them dont buy them & keep your ****** mouth shut. I dont usually get rattled but why would you even make that comment. Y-KNOT if you want to discuss this further pm me.

Local Hick

Y-knot

In my area I am a Local Hick and I sometimes work in my back yard.

Most every custom part you put on your truck was first built by some local hick in his/her back yard. Then some big business gets ahold of it and makes a bunch of them, raises the price alot and sells it to you. Just because you have no talent of your own don't give you the right to put down others that do.

CBoerm

Good Luck with your stack building, you will be much happery to show them off and be able to say you built them your self.

Cliff

The bars from Fabritech are very easy bolt on parts. Just a few holes in the frame for the front mount.

Now for the guy that got his bloomers all twisted in a knot. I was not talking about you or anyone in particular, get over it. I was referring to the "Industry as a whole" , That would include all. The point was there is no need to worry about getting screwed over by some local dealer, or maker when you can buy from a large and reputable parts place. Since we "or at least most people" live in the Internet age, all parts are accessible to anyone that wants or needs them. No longer does anyone have to pay the local dealer his over inflated price. With a few key strokes anyone can find the parts they want, at a fair price. If you feel like this includes you then oh well, other wise don't take it personal

Also, I do have many talents. I do ALL my own work. I have degrees in Industrial Robotics as well as a master degree in automotive servicing. I am a certified welder in several discipline's and areas. I have BUILT several race cars, from a pile of tubing to finished and completive racers. I hold several patents in both the Electrical and Mechanical Fields, all items I designed. I have NEVER wanted for a job, fact is I can go anywhere at any time and be hired on. I to tinker and design projects in my back yard, as well as travel to Germany, France, Austria and Spain. I have never failed at anything I wanted to do, and do not fore see it happening anytime in the future. I do not believe there is anything wrong with people doing their own work, or being a "Shade tree mechanic". I tend to view someone by their efforts and results, rather then by "who" they are or "what country club" they belong to. I only responded to your attack to prove you and your words wrong, not to boost, I keep my life very private.
