Question from a new guy

Hello,

I have now had my 02 2500 ETH DEE for an entire 24 hours and love it. With the search down I have some questions that I'm sure are beat to death. I have an account at my local parts store and he can not get the Fleetguard filters. He has the Rotella and can get Delo and will stock it if I ask him too. The filter he has is a WIX 51607, any opinions on these, I can get them for $6. 01 each. I did not get the Rotella part number but the Delo is 400-15-40. He could not tell me if this is synthetic or not can any one tell me if it is? It is $6. 50 per gallon. Any help would be great.

Thank you.

I buy my oil at Walmart. They have a selection of several kinds. I buy my filters (oil/fuel/air) over the internet from Geno's Garage (www.genosgarage.com). Their 4/2/1 kits are priced right, and they arrive on my doorstep a couple days after I order them, with no hassle. Good luck with your new truck. I just passed the magical 36,000 mile point, and have never had to repair a single thing yet, including the infamous lift pump you will read about on this site.

Delo 15-40 at $6. 50 per gal is not synthetic, but it is one of the premium oils used my many diesel drivers.

I get my fleetguard filters at a truck supply , i. e. for the big rigs, also Cummins dealers handle them

You can get filters at your local Cummins dist. They are about the same price as mentioned earlier. Dello 400 15-40 is dino juice. It is the highest rated dino juice. It alreaady meets the Cummins specs for the 2003 engine w/ 15k oil change intervals.

Thank you to all for the help. I think I will get the 4/2/1 from Geno's along with a new drain plug and go with the 15/40 Delo dino oil. My owners manual says to change the oil every 3000 miles since I tow a trailer, 3500lbs four days a week, about 7000lbs the other day and for about 3000 to 4000 miles a year a tow about 13,000lbs. My drving is about 50/50 hwy/city. What do you guys suggest? Thanks again

If you have a local Cummins check there prices out on filters. I tow about 900 miles a week pulling about 4k 50/50 Hwy/city. I change mine every 6k miles. I have over 60k on my truck now in only 1. 5 years, and all is well.

I just got home from a 500miles trip hauling about 5500lbs. I LOVE THIS TRUCK. We were in a hurry coming home so I set the cruise at 77mph in 6th and the truck did not care about any little grade at all. In South Western MO the grades are very little. I am at 958 miles on the truck. Going down I got 12. 4mph avg. and only 11. 1 on theway back. Going down I only ran about 72mph. I did have a sad moment though. As I passed a gravel truck going the other way, he hit a bump and showers the truck in rocks. Four dings in the windsheild, three chips in the paint on the hood and one under the drives side quad door. I was PI$$ED. I e-mailed Cummins about the oils changes and they said 7500 miles was good. I have a some what long message from them. If any one wants it I will e-mail it to you. Thanks again fo the help.

as a lube service tech for Cat and Komatsu, we have had excellent luck using Donaldson filters. Some of our engines cost upwards of $250,000 for a cat 3516. I do believe Donaldson makes filters for several oem companies. RRR
