What should she use to get the diesel smell out of my clothes? When I put a GDP filter kit on my truck I got some fuel here and there. Right now I think she uses Tide in the washer and Bounce in the dryer. I think she washed them twice and then set them in the garage until she can find out how to get the smell out. I was hoping someone could help me help her. Thanks. Sorry about the dumb question but I don't know who else to ask.

try some dish soap, as it's a de-greaser.

also, try a bit of Febreeze after the clothes are done...

Lastly, keep a set of "work" clothes in a bag in the garage for these kinds of jobs.

Hopefully someone else has better advice!

I use the plastic cup that comes with the bottle (Era), and use 1 1/2 cups. Also, I ONLY wash my work clothes with hot water, and hot or warm for the rinse. If you use any cold water, the grease/oil is MUCH harder to get out.

Might not be a bad idea to fill the washer with the clothes/soap/water, and let it sit full for an hour or so. Then run the washer normally.

Keep the load itself light. Don't cram the washer full of clothes. Wash the fuel soaked stuff, and maybe a few other work clothes, but not too much.

I save my "work clothes" as just that! Get set and save them for work only. I never run them through the washer. If they ever need cleaning, I just dump them in a 5 gal bucket with some detergent, let 'em soak for a day or 2, them rinse 'em in the same fasion then hose 'em down and let 'em dry. I will where them for days (and jobs) on end.

I learned years ago to NEVER put work clothes in the washer!! My mother (rest her soul) let me know that work clothes in the washer were a "no- no. " I still to this day respect her wishes! Skin is easier to clean than clothes!

(I don't argue with women :-laf )

If the garage is where trk work is done then hanging there puts smell back in. Hang them outside for a bit. I wash mine once a year whether they need it or not.

I asked my wife. She said that she just uses the laundry soap we get in a bucket from Cosco plus some stuff called Oxi Clean from the same store. She starts the washer and after it runs a while she shuts it off to let the work clothes soak for at least an hour. Then she runs the washer again just like usual. The clothes are clean and no diesel smell when it's done. She says soap alone won't do it.

super clean rocks

That Castroil Super Clean is the ticket. That suff in the purple bottle , it cleans cloths , engines, 4 wheelers, even the garage floor. 6 bucks at WallyWorld ! :D

Super Clean or Simple Green. Pour a cupfull in the wash along with the normal soap.

My Dad is a mechanic and my Mom's been doing this to his Dickies uniforms for over 20 years. Hasn't hurt the clothes or washer yet.

Only thing bad about either of those is contact with untreated Aluminum. Like don't spray your tires to clean them up if you have non-clear coated Aluminum wheels.

I just got done sanding my valve cover so I can paint it and I was washing it off in the kitchen sink. Used some Super Clean and you can see where I sprayed it and didn't rinse it off fast enough.

A friend of mine claims that dumping a can of Cocacola in with the oily clothes does the trick for him. I never did try it though. Cheap if it works!

Wifie says "Many thanks!" She says for me to pre treat with Super Clean and mix a 5 gallon bucket with a lid with Simple Green or maybe Oxi Clean (for later use too) and for me to let them soak. Then rinse them in the driveway a little and give them to her for washing. Thanks again.
