Have any members driven with both of these in a truck?? Or better yet had one then switched to another?? DTT recommended 89% but wanted some feedback from owners who have experienced both personally. I have never been in a DTT truck, so before I buy I want to be sure 89% is for me not the 91% like I originally wanted. I do all city driving(stop & go). My mods are below, no towing but I want to know that I can tow a 28' boat if I ever have to( just a hypothetical) I have 3. 54 in rear and I am doing the overhaul with the VB all at the same time.

THANKS

I just switched from a 91 to an 89. The 89 spools up a little quicker off the line, other than that, not much differance, both are great. You will hardly notice you have that boat behind you. You have to drive to believe.

The reason I changed was that I upgraded, per Bill K's advice, to the 5 clutch pack and other goodies prior to adding more power.

I have the 89,my Dad has the 91%,I installed them both, and drive both trucks regularly,I would go with the 89,as recommended. I like the 89 better, they are both awesome, but the 89 is much better at low speeds, and more resposive,if there's a difference once under way,it is so small you cant feel it. They both seem to have the same amount of stall from a roll, the 91 doesnt seem to pull any harder,or be any stiffer.

Im about 1 hr NW of the city, your welcome to drive my beast any time, you will never be happy with stock again! My mileage is the same now with DD3's,Edge comp, and transmission work,as it was bone stock,(16mpg)its just a lot more fun to drive now. This 7K truck feels like it weighs about 3500 lbs, since the engine just pulls it around like its not even there, since the goodies have gone on.

Mostly in town driving, and I plow snow, constant back and forth, more than city driving,I dont get on the highway much,so when i do ,I go at least 80. I live in a rural area, but traffic is getting bad here the last few yrs,so its a lot of stop, and go now,our towns are putting up red lights,as fast as developers can build the new houses, and businesses,so its getting hard to even get up to 55 anymore on what used to be open roads.

Goober,I installed the upgrade kit in my dad's 01,with hd seals, and HD 2nd band, extra reverse springs, since he is only at 300 rwhp, that was what they recomended. Since mine is 400hp,I have the extra 3rd gr clutch plate too,I have th 89 because i plow snow, and needed the looser TC,or id have the 91 too,I'm glad I got the 89,i like it better, and 95% of my driving is with the comp off,or on level 1.

thanks, you seem to know your trannies.

I asked a ? on the trailer thread, but was wondering what you thought of shift kits?

I pull a trailer and mostly in OD 98% of the time.

Was told a SKit would increase TCC pressure and fluid flow?

what do you think of shift kits?

I had the 91% for over a year. Last December I switched to the 89% and I like it much better. Even at generous :) horsepower levels, I still like the 89% over the 91%.

Smoother shifts

Less shock load transmitted through the clutchs each shift

Cooler transmission idling in gear (traffic, drive-thru's etc)

Much better takeoffs

Less smoke on the bottom end

To top it off, I can't feel any loss of power transfer on the topend.

I don't think I would ever recommend a 91%. :)

Strick-9,I couldnt have said it better myself, the 89 covers 95% of the trucks,IMO. Goober,I dont know trannies like Bill K knows them, but I did use a trans go TFOD shift kit in my 96 CTD with great results,my TC was slipping with the TST#6 plate,i drove it 6 months like that, babying it in lockup, until i was north of 2000RPM. After I put it in,I could not slip it under any circumstances, and i tried, even towing 8K,it held, even after being slipped for 6 months. They kit I put in had new seals for the 3rd gear, which i didnt put in,at the time, its been 2. 5 yrs,and its still holding,so they must be good.

I went with the 91% based on Bills reccomedation. I have a 4:10 rear end and at the time I spoke with him, he said he thought with my towing requirements and being moderately bombed, the 91% would be a better fit. I've driven an identical truck to mine (mods included) with an 89% and could barely tell a difference. I've been pleased with mine :)!
