Your Brain ?

ok here is the deal, the school i'm going to does the repair work on a pulling sled. Well they always take it out in the dirt field and play with it, they pull their pullin tractor, and any one who wants to hook their truck to it. I'm one of them who wants to hook the dodge to it. what are some of the things that i should do to make a good pull and not break anything. I wiuld like to out do any of the fords or the two ETH dodges. All suggestions needed.
4 hi or 4 lo, hidden weight, i had it weighed last week and it weighed 6660#, my tires are moderat tread fairly new.
well lets see what you know about this. it is all just for fun, but i would like to do good.

I would run low range and try letting the trans shift itself. You may find that low range second wound out would be about right. If you want to try another old trick block the rear springs solid. That is use a block of steel between the axle and the frame. This prevents rear end sag and helps to tranfer more weight to the rear of the truck and off of the sled pan. I think if you use your head and dont jerk the thing around the driveline will take a lot of pullin. Usually the traction gives up way before the driveline.
Try not to steer when pulling as the front steering universals are strongest when run straight. Any extra weight you add should be put as far forward as possible this helps the front axle to stay on the ground. Go have FUN.

I second Roberts reply.
I can only add the higher the hitch, the more wieght/ traction you'll have. I also chain the front for little/no downward movement. Then last is tire pressure, if you go to low you'll start bouncing= breakage.
You course can also add power by pushing your plate forward. #ad

Big Yellow, do not use any advantages as listed above unless other people are or you will always have that nagging pain in the back of your mind wondering if I could have done this without any aid. If they are useing pulling methods then all bets are off and cheat anyway you can (I mean use advantages). #ad

P. S. No body likes to be beat, but you will have the pride of knowing you done your best. beside next time you can cheat (I mean use advantages).

these are the rules, you use them the best you can, if you dont someone else will... . I don't call it cheating, but it will give you an advantage over someone who is ignorant of the rules.
I chain around the spring tower and the sway bar. 2" down minimum.
