It seems that in at least gears 1-3 that I am reving to around 3000-3200. Should I actually be much closer to 4000 RPM's in every gear? The kit came from TST and was installed by a local dealer/shop. I want to make sure that I have the right GSK as I had the valve springs installed just so I could run the 4GSK. So any tips on how to make sure I got the right springs would be very much appreciated.

Either way this is by far one of the best things I have done yet for modifications.

Gsk

I have a 3kgsk in my 215 pump and it will turn 3600 rpm pretty easy but try to avoid doing it. How high will you truck rev sitting still when you hit the throttle? You shouldn't have any problem reving past 3000 rpm with a 4k gsk. After installing the kit did you idle change?

With the 4K kit you have the ability to rev. to 4,500 + or -. This is the available RPM's not shift points. Even with a cam and other goodies I still shift at 3,200 - 3,500 for best results. Above 3,500 I am too far past the power curve and loose time.

How are fuel filter and lift pump? If one of those isnt up to snuff, it could affect your ability to rev higher. AND there is the possibility the shop took you for a ride. I'm not saying they DID, just have to watch out and be careful these days- lot of guys out for your $$$ and nothing else. BTDT too many times to fully trust anyone I havent known a long time. On the rare occasions I have to take something to a shop, I ask for the old parts, or to at least see the old parts, for a side-by-side comparison.

I watched him install the new springs, I saw him do it. I didnt have any GSK before then so I know that there is a huge difference even if it isnt a 4 GSK. My concern is if I just got the wrong springs in. I dont know about the lift pump but Scheids changed the fuel filter when they did the work on my truck a few weeks ago. It revs to around 3000 sitting at a dead stop in neutral. It doesnt really sound like it wants to go past that.

4kgsk

Hey TQRMonster i would like to make another suggestion check and make sure that your throttle linkage at the back of the injection pump is touching the high idle set screw when at wide open throttle. Can you tell me what springs you have left over after the install? You should have no problem reving past 3000 rpm even with a 3kgsk sitting still.

I am taking it back out to the guy who installed them tommorow so he can look at it and try and find out what is going on. I will find out what springs are leftover. He has done quite a few of the installs and he says he remembers changing out all three of the springs so we are not sure what the problem is.

Maybe a long shot, but the tach maybe off. I am not really thinking that to be the case however.

I will post when I find out more.

ive got a 3k gsk that i installed my self and i noticed a big gain. my question is can you just buy the large spring that is not changed in the 3k kit? i know i need 60# exhaust springs, but i dont want to buy the other springs if i dont have to.

wes

The 4k GSK needs both the int. and exh. valve springs. Unless you can control yourself. ;) If you can, you won't need the 60# springs.

It appears that the springs work correctly. It is my first time driving a truck with GSK and wasnt quite sure what to expect. It revs high enough at idle/neutral. The reason that we think it doesnt seem to rev high enoudh in gear is that Im lacking air (This was the main problem) as Im still putting out the smoke at that high RPM. A new turbo has been in the works for awhile and all should be well when it is aquired.

Now however my Pyro has been spazing out. It will bury when at idle or appear to read 200-300 degrees hotter than normal at cruising speed. Shut it off (after I know it should be cool) and start it again will make it work correctly most of the time. Oh well, its always something.

WDimig:

The large spring isn't replaced in the 4K kit, there is one more smaller inner spring, and yes it can be purchased seperately. You will need intake and exhaust springs or a lot of careful foot control. Not for me.

You can go online and look at autometer's catalog and match up the thermocouple part no in the catalog with your series of guage etc. It may be closer to $50 if memory serves (autometer).

Most TDR vendors sell Autometer, not sure if they stock the thermocouple or would break a pyrometer kit to only to replentish it when the replacement part arrived. Geno's, PDR etc. immediately come to mind.

I sell Autometer, but don't inventory them. I do have a distributor that will special order this if you run into problems.

Did you find some more giddy up from the gsk?

Good luck

Andy

Yeah the GSK is awesome, only waited so long cause I wanted the 4GSK and needed the 60lb valve springs. The ability to shift at much higher RPM's is great. Accelaration is much improved. Wished I would have doene it sooner.

It worked better when wastegate was plugged but stock turbo life at 45-52 PSI will not be long. So I had to hook wastegate back up. Want to get a new turbo but not the downtime waiting on the new one cause I popped the old. Truck is getting about 37 PSI now. Still fun to drive.

The thermocouple on my old autometers died. I called autometer, they sent me a new one no charge but shipping. :)
