A/C Stopped Working-------Any Ideas

GVWR and Energy Revisited

Got my Onan generator 5. 5 a couple days before Frances hit Daytona Bch. Only had time to hook up the battery cables and run a line to my shore line. Now that I have time to get this thing installed in my HR 5th wheel I have a question in regards to the install. The metal pan in my front compartment, I'm not real sure if I need to re-enforce it with another sheet of steel. The unit weighs 279 lbs. If any of you have installed one of these I would like to know if you think the pan would hold it up. I would appreciate any hints today. I can also check with HR this coming week.

Oh, by the way, the Onan generator is a dream come true. Worked great.

Thanks.

I have a couple of suggestions... .

1 - I would mount the genset on some structure... I used a couple of pieces of 1 1/2" square tube... ran it across the other structural material and bolted it together... I used some heavy rubber spacers like what are used some some shock mounts to bolt the genset to the tubing... .

2 - Mine has both a 12 V plug and 120v plug... . I ran 8 guage wires from the electrical panel on the trailer to the genset and put a junction box and fuse and a plug that would plug into my genset... . once mine starts the 120 to 12 volt converter charges my batteries so I put together a second plug and 12 gauge wires so that I can run a medium high amp lead out to charge other batteries... BTW - the way mine is set up... if the truck is connected to the trailer the genset will keep the truck batteries topped off as well...

3 - even though you have an exhaust - I made sure that the area that my gen set went into has some loovers in the door... I actually took the door off and and mounted 2 12x14 loovers to the door... . large white ones that are used for air intake loovers for heating systems on houses... so that air can move around this compartment. . as the engine will give off a large amount of heat... . as you can tell... for me... this compartment was not set up for a gen set from the start... .

Hope this has helped...

Jim
