Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) questions 0216 code

i have been having strange little cutouts or missing very infrequently but i dont drive it alot. i'm not sure about the dead peddle issue, it has felt strange a few times like it was not responding properly to throttle setting. i have been getting the 1693 code, today i got 0216! is there a nother reason it could throw that code or is it cut and dried. if my memory serves me this pump could go out in a day or 6 months correct? my truck is an 02 with49,000 on it. off dodges warranty but is the pump covered on cummins warranty? i'm suposed to pick up my new artic fox camper on monday in La Grande, Ore. about 400 miles... ... ... . to drive or not to drive that is the question? If i have to do the pump will the dealer have one in stock or is it order only? i know this is a lot of questions but i need your input. thanks robert

It is on it way out. It could be any time no way to tell.

Unfortunately, your VP is on it's way out. The one that I lost on my '01 literally just shut off in the middle of the road. Others have had lots of warning signs before theirs quit completely. I'm not necessarily saying that you shouldn't take the chance on your trip this week. But, just be prepared in case you have bad luck with it.

I had one that gave a 0216 for about 30k before it died. It did have a dead pedal altot thought that time though.

PO216 Fuel injection pump failure, High fuel supply restiction, low fuel pressure. I had a 1693 and a 0216 the other day and it was the filter!

thanks just changed it when this started. seemed to help a little. taking my chip off also seemed to help. i dont know what that would have to do with it but had to come off to get it checked. thanks robert

That is the code I got when my VP44 was going. That is the slow electronic death. It can stop at anytime. It is covered under warranty IF your truck is STOCK! They will refuse it for anything!
