Have any of you serious Bomber tried bigger injectors than what you needed and had good results? Lawrence at DD said - "it's better for egt if you get your hp from bigger injectors than doing pump mods". First of all, is Lawrence the right person to talk to? He seemed to be to me. If a person puts in bigger injectors, would it be better to use the biggest ones and slide the plate back to the desired power? Is that a better approach for ultimate mpg and lower egt for the resulting HP? Is there any disadvantage to that(such as poor injector performance, excessive smoke etc. )instead of using smaller injectors and leaving the plate where it is? I don't want to do a clutch job yet but I could use some more power and still get by with my stock clutch! Craig

Vaughn, thanks for the tip on the DD discount!

Seems to be about 3-4 different levels of injector/pump scenarios that apply to Cummins engines used from '89 to present - and it SURE makes it confusing to different owners who want to improve the power output of their engines in a genuinely PROVEN manner! We have:

'89-early '91
late '91-93
'94-mid '98
late 98-present

At least that's the way *I* see it, with potentially DIFFERENT approaches to upgraded fuel delivery appropriate to EACH different group!

What *I* would like to see, is a SPECIFIC route to improve fuel delivery - possibly in several specific power levels - for EACH engine/fuel delivery type as they have evolved thru the years. This would seem a good article to be included in the TDR quarterly magazine - otherwise, a guy can run himself pretty ragged trying to sort it all out, and STILL possibly not obtain the results he THOUGHT he was going to get...

C Schomer, I just added DD Stage 3's and boost module to my 2001 ETH last weekend. I still have the stock clutch, for now, and the HX35 turbo. No dyno numbers to tell me how much I gained, or where I was to start with, but I am quite #ad
so far. I have put maybe 600 miles on the new injectors, and have really gotten on the go faster pedal maybe 3 times, and really loved it. EGT's go up almost as fast as the speedometer, and I will soon be going with an HX40 to compensate for that. Of course I want more power, too! Too soon yet to tell what effect they will have on my MPG, but man, do they help the MPH!!!

Tom

TDR articles would be a great idea and also point out the pros and cons of different combos - like which setups are good for racing(and insect dusting)and which are good, dependable towing setups with reasonable egts at or near peak HP). I'm still hoping for more member responces who have road experience. Come on guys, don't make me have to ask these questions on the Ford and GM sites!! No - I wouldn't go that far! Happy Good Friday the 13th! Now there's an oxymoron! Craig

I can't really speak for the 12v Cummins, but I would speculate that what you are describing is a logical line of thought. Not to mention that the guys at DD do know thier stuff. I have heard nothing negative about them to date. I would recommend injectors first. Then decide if you want to play with cams and the like. I love my injectors, and I think they have the most benefit with the least mechanical consequences. Anyone have more light to shed?

Craig,

Your rig is pretty similar to mine. Go right to the 370's. But, your right about the clutch with that #11 plate in there. The 14cm2 turbo should help keep your EGT's decent. I still need to go to at least a 16cm2 over my stock HX35. My smoke is pretty minimal except when I really have my foot in it about 80. Little rough in the cold mornings but mileage is still good unless you play constantly.

Don't slide the plate because your engine can't afford more high rpm fueling with that 14 housing. You need a plate with more mid range but not much more top end--the TST#10 will do it. Yes injectors are a good idea and the DD3s or the 370 hp marine will help. Either approach, the 10 or inj, will probably get you into that egt twilight zone again and you will need the 16 housing at a minimum and even better the HX40/16. This stuff has been hashed over and over on the forum and in my past articles in the TDR. Hope this summary helps. You might email me or call me, or come to May Madness, for more details. I've been there and done that. AT this point, I don't want to detune that much #ad
because 609 hp is beginning to feel kinda sickly, so I gotta go for more. #ad
