Hey Guys,

I need to get some advice from those who are experienced with all three boxes. I currently run the TST PMCR stacked with the Edge EZ. I'm curious about swapping some boxes around since I've had these for a few years and don't know what to expect with the Smarty. (It wasn't out when I did my mods)

I have an early '04 with the 305/555. It has a FASS pump, SPS66 turbo, stock CP3 and South Bend DD clutch. With my EZ on level 3 and the TST on 5 / 7, I'm pushing 512hp and 934tq at the rear wheels.

Knowing what I'm running, what combinations would produce more power and how much more should I expect? I've gotten a little behind on the boxes the past few years, so I don't know anything at all about the Smarty.

The only other issue that I want to mention is that the SPS66 with my current setup is very slow to spool on the low end, but acceptable at about 1900 -2000 rpm and higher.

Thanks!!!

I have a similar setup as you, and was able to obtain the following with the stack of the TST Powermax CR and Smarty.

Smarty at Level 9 REVO (Torque Management = Wild, Injection Timing = for Aftermarket Injectors, Rail Pressure = Wild)

And then changed the PowerMac CR as noted below.

554 hp and 1021 tq = PowerMax CR (Power = 4, Torque = 2, and Rail Pressure = 2)

544 hp and 1235 tq = PowerMax CR (Power = 3, Torque = 3, and Rail Pressure = 3)

With the addition of a modified CP3, I could hit +600hp by using the TNT version of the Smarty. With the stock CP3 the mods pull too much fuel causing the CP3 to starve.

Stock CP3? turn the TST to 5/2, leave the EZ on 3.

Let me back up, what TST program are you using? If you are using either twins program, with a stock CP3, leave the tq setting on 2.

If you adjust it higher, the injection pump will not be able to overcome the early demand and produce enough fuel for top end hp. If you are running the Standard program, you may get away with a tq setting of 3.

If you actually had it set on 5/7, with a stock CP3, you shot yourself in the foot, so to speak.

Smarty will almost always beat TST by itself with the correct settings, but by adding TST 2/0 to any Smarty program, I have been able to increase hp on the Dyno.

Yes you have a 66 to spool.....

we made 465 rear wheel h. p. with a tst ez stack on a stock turbo at bully dog awhile back and everyone knows how they run their dyno, it was probably more like 480 ish, and then made a 539/1100 with same program and stock injectors with twins at 45 psi, on 35inch tires, currently running revo tnt, tst twins, mp-8 stack but need to get it on a dyno for some tuning, i like the ez but it is playing with fire cause you cant back it down from the cab like the mp-8, the tst is a good all around box, the smarty is just plain sweet, the tst ez stack is a good combo, add a revo race tune and some valve springs to the combo with a modified cp-3 or duals and it will run good.

I called Mark @ TST because I couldn't remember what the last program loaded was. I have the early twins program. I did turn the TST down to 5/2 and checked the SOP meter. It was a little less torque through the mid-rpm range, but was stronger near the top. I've never noticed that before.

I should have the Smarty in the mail in the next couple days. I'm looking forward to playing. Now I just have to get my new clutch in so I can use it.

Hey Guys,

I did get the S06 POD Smarty in the mail after a few days. I installed it and have tried so many settings... . I removed the EZ from the truck. The POD sucks -- when I turn it down off 100%, my truck loses the top end. If it's on 65%, the thing won't even get over about 2500 rpm.

Anyhow, I cannot find a combination that gives me the power that I had with the EZ and TST stack. It's noticabily sluggish in comparison on each combination of settings that I've tried.

Does anybody have any suggestions? The smarty has so many settings I don't know where to start, and I've suffered ever since I bought it. I'm finally getting arouknd to trying to get it tuned a little better again, but don't know where to start.

Thanks!

All of that extra pressure with the EZ/TST/SMARTY stack will kill injectors alot faster if you turn them up too much. I have had that problem before.

4 wheelssmoking, Look how close our mods and dyno numbers are:-laf

What Smarty program... Revo? If so leave the POD at 100%, run either sw7 or sw9 with all the options at default. After you get a feel for that, you can start tweaking torque management and pressure one level at a time. Just remember, after you adjust the options you have to reload the sw before they will take affect. I believe default timing (2) on the revo is already the most advanced, I do not remember for sure, someone will certainly correct me if wrong:-laf.

Do not get discouraged with the Smarty just yet, It was a long time before I got my 03 tuned with Smarty, before I was able to choose it over the TST/EZ stack.

You can also try the Revo "TNT" Smarty tune which is much more aggressive than the standard Revo. The TNT also gave less smoke for me which is weird but others have said the same thing. Dont know how well the TNT works on the 305/555 engine. My truck in signature can roast the tires on TNT Sw 1. If I let her hook up she is flying

Some 03/04 trucks get popping with TNT programming. My 03 does it just a bit in the upper rpm range. Most guys say that TNT is stronger, even with the popping.

Leave the POD on 100%. I don't run POD, because frankly I never saw the need for it. I'd try TM 2, or 3 for better lowend response. Don't add timing with Smarty, so either run even # SW or set timing to level 1 (stock) on odd # SWs. Rail on 2. Try that, and adjust as needed.

You might want to try TNT also. Just know that you may get popping with it. And which TST do you have? R49? R37?

I ran the exact setup you have... Smarty/TST/EZ with a SPS66 turbo.

It's been awhile since I've ran anything other than TNT/R on Smarty, but I nearly always leave the Smarty on Torque management 1, Rail pressure 1, Timing 4 (or 3 if I'm just going to be running empty on a long trip), and Catcher #7.

I don't even turn on the EZ or TST for normal driving usually. However, whenever I need a little more power, I'll run TST on 2/0 or 3/0. Anything more gets too hot for my taste on extended runs.

The pressure box (I've used EZ and TS-MP8) only gets used on the rare occasion that I really want a little more power.
