My local dealer is giving lifetime drivetrain warrenty and lifetime oil changes for free.

Sounds like a good deal.

If I could get that deal in writing I would go for it. In the past, the lifetime drivetrain warranty always excluded the diesels.

A sales manager's signature would not necessarily be of much value in a situation like that if a major and expensive transmission failure occurs and someone is trying to have a repair done under a dealer's "life time warranty. "

Sales managers come and go in most dealerships. Rather than pay out several thousand dollars several years from now the dealership would tell the owner "that sales manager had no authority to make that promise and we will not honor his promise. "

The dealer principle's signature on a formal letter on dealership letterhead paper describing the terms and conditions of the "warranty" might have value.

Yep, I've seen that ad. Read the fine print! Only Chrysler product cars with gasoline engines are included in the lifetime powertrain warranty. There are other restrictions and required dealer inspections. Free oil changes is a dealer option.

IRC, the lifetime powertrain warranty is an old program and no longer applies.

Unless it's a small dealership, I doubt that a principal signs each and every sales contract. Legally, in an agency relationship, the principal is the person who gives authority to another, called an agent, to act on his or her behalf. My point is that, by making the warranty commitment part of the deal, those provisions should be as enforceable as any other portion of the sales agreement signed by you and an authorized agent of the dealership (whomever that might be), but ultimately that would be up to the judiciary to decide. Either way, it's better than having only a salesman's verbal commitment.

If written into the sales contract I agree it should be binding and enforceable.

But my guess is Bill Stockard already explained the "warranty" away like a puff of smoke.

Yeah, I've never seen the lifetime warranty apply to diesels, either. Hey, if he's lucky enough to get it written into the deal without a higher authority catching it, I guess the dealership will have a long time to regret their mistake. :-laf

When Chrysler went off a cliff a friend bought an '08 Diesel RAM with a lifetime bumper to bumper warranty as an incentive. Could have been worthless and may be worthless in the future but for now it's an excellent deal. It happens when they're desperate to move trucks.

You guys wanted the proof. Here it is. Photos of signs on trucks are on their lot displaying the offer.

Yeah, I have (had) lifetime oil changes included when I bought my 95 new. Then after a few years, the dealer closed their Dodge franchise and I was told I could go to their Lincoln Mercury Dealer that the company owned about 40 minutes away. I never did that. But my point is also that OP's dealer can also either fold after a while or reorganize at some point and the warranty can be null. It's a gamble, but if I got a good price on my truck, I would take that gamble.

Great pictures. I admit, I was a doubter. I wish my local dealer would do the same. There would already be a new truck ordered. If this dealer has a good reputation, I would consider trading in quickly if you are in the market for a new truck. Obviously it is a dealer warrenty and not a Ram warrenty but it would definitely have made me sway to buy one rather than keep mine for a little while longer.

I don't see anything about a "lifetime drivetrain warranty" in the advertising you posted above.

I would be very curious and careful about the fine print or details of the "lifetime engine warranty on diesel" before I would buy based on that dealer's warranty and also, whether the details would be specifed in writing in an actual contract between dealer and buyer.

Words are cheap to utter. It's collecting on the claims at a later time when the bill is significant that matters.

If you want a new truck and they give you a good deal then it's a no brainer the warranty is a free-bee no matter how long it lasts . Maybe it will last a lifetime ( what is that length of time ) or it may not

HB you make a good point. I will check on that tomorrow. I looked at the fine print that I don't think you can read on my photo. Warranty covered by Premier Dealer Services. Either way a lifetime warranty on just the motor is exceptional.

One might want to examine this to see what constitutes a warranty repair and what is considered "normal wear". That question comes to my mind when I see the ads for extended warranties for used cars. "Is this a warranty(which excludes normal wear), or an insurance policy?
