What are the best forums for boating? Also, anyone out there know of any how to instructions on installing a thru-hull exhaust? I want to install a Captian's call exhaust but would like to find some sort of install instructions to see what exactly is needed and if I feel comfortable doing the job myself.

You could try here http://www.usboatingclub.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=;action=login

Installing a thru hull is easy. I've done it before. assuming what you are installing is similar to what I installed... .

Pick the spot, bore the hole, pre drill all the attachment bolt holes. Make the holes slightly oversized to allow room for caulk. The use liberal amounts of a good caulk, I like 3M 5200.

Assemble everything with good quality stainless thru bolts, nuts and washers.

clean up the caulk mess. Caulk will take a few days to fully cure.

On the inside attach the exhaust hose... make sure to double clamp it and again use good quality all stainless clamps.

That should do ya.

Some of the best I have seen are the owners groups for the actual brand vessel you have. (Kinda like the TDR!) Not thats its bad to join or troll others-but you have the chance to share info with folks who own a similar craft as yours. The OEM usually trolls these sites as well.

Installing your exhaust has some details that should be checked prior.

Do you currently have risers installed because of a low static water line height? Will they interfere or prohibit? Swim Platform? Integrated? (which cuts into engine room space) Is there real estate at the helm for the controls? Go to a boat show, look at some that have Captains Call. (This trip will net you some owners group info) Maybe your model? Try the OEM or other same brand dealers, maybe they have installed in your model before and have the answers already.

Good Luck-- Drew

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll check out those two sites you mentioned.

midlife_crisis, good point about the owners forums, however my boat is a 1994 Celebrity Status 240. Celebrity is no longer manufactured but there are several in the midwest and I've seen many with the thru-hull exhaust, though never close-up. It does have an integrated swim platform, but as stated above, I've seen several of the same mold so I know it can be done. Just not sure what it takes. Not sure on the risers as I don't know what they are, but I'm on a quest to learn.

Extreme1, noise ordinance is why I want the selectable exhaust like Captain's Choice or Corsa's Quick and Quiet. There is no such ordinance where I boat now but you never know. I want to have the choice if something were to change in my area or if I take the boat to an area where such and ordinance does exist.
