I have a 2ed generation quadcab longbed & am looking at ordering a new one. I have a cap - will it fit the 3rd generation? Also, is there really anymore legroom or more comfort in the back of the new model 4 door than the 2ed generation quad cab?

I had an '01 LB QC. I have a basic aluminum canopy that I use only once in a while. It fits the '03 - but barely. Width is very good, and interior length dimension is almost the same - but the tailgate is thicker which forces the whole thing back to get the window to close. Still seals on the front but not by much and there is a pretty big gap between the cab and canopy. I am guessing if you wanted one to look good - you would not be happy. For me - I'll live with it as I only use it when needed and then take back off.

There is no comparison in leg room to a 2nd gen. While it is not as much as a Ford/chevy 4 door - it is now "enough" for an average size guy (6ft ish) to sit straight forward in the back at a reasonable comfort level. It really changes how you can use the pickup - all of a sudden it is an easy 4 person hauler - and 6 isn't too bad for shorter distances. I have been pleasantly surprized with the new cab.

I can't answer the topper question, but the back seat there is no comparison. I had a 2001 (great truck), and the 2003 I now have is superior in every way... ... except my wife liked the sound of the old cummins better.

As far as the top goes, I seriously doubt it. The 2G trucks are square at the front of the bed and the 3G are curved to contour the cab and also the cabs have different silouettes.

As far as the back seats go, if it wasn't for the body change I wouldn't have bought a CTD. It's only the 3G back seat that has enough room to place a car seat in the back and still have everyone comfortable. Also, some of these other guys stated that there isn't as much room as the four door ferd or chubby. I like that fact because the rear doors significately shorter (horizontally) and therefore when the kids get out of the back there is a much less chance of their door hitting the car next to us.

The back seat easily holds a 6+ footer and the while the back doors are a tad bit smaller than the other guys crew cabs, they do open nearly 90 degrees so getting in and out is easy.

Go for it, you won't be sorry!

They won't fit... I ordered an "Ovation" for my 03... had a Leer for the 98-1/2>

The box is waaaaaay different on the 03's! The front of the box is rounded compared to the 98-1/2
