Can I do a cab swap with a doner gas truck?

A couple years ago i picked up an untweaked 92w250. I'm swapping my 21cm turbo exhaust housing for a 16.

I could not get the hot side separated on the truck, so I removed the entire turbo. I was surprised that there was not one drop of oil when i removed the oil feed and drain lines. Is this normal for it to be so empty (drained)?

It is currently soaking in Kroil... ... Any tips or tricks on getting it apart? I've marked it, and i know to take it apart carefully, while keeping vane clearance. I think it's gonna tak a hammer:eek:

I've got the manifold gasket, and oil drain gasket, and will use a little anti-sieze when going back together. I'll tap the manifold for a pyro. Anything I'm missing?

Done. It just needed a bigger hammer. I went to put a few ounces of oil in the inlet before hooking the hose up, but it wouldnt really take any. Kinda acted air-locked. Having never taken a turbo apart before, i expected there to be some oil in it. Will see how it drives later tonight.

yep I was going to say some heat or a BFH work's good also had the same problem with mine . and if you haven't yet add the 3200 spring and a fuel pin and you will be smiling Big Time . as for oil in turbo I have never seen any either but maybe that's a good thing ?

10-4, as soon as i get this gauge hooked up, i was gonna fiddle with the spring, and at least turn the pin. Lookin at the m2 pin too. As expected, the 16cm housing works much better. I can feel the turbo coming in earlier and smoother. I guess it's getting oil, or I would've smoked it by now.

If you're doing your part, the turbo is upwards of 300* when you shut it down... . oil will drain quickly down the return line. No worries, as long as it spools up quick and doesn't make any noise. I like to make sure I lube mine when they've been sitting for a long time, too. Something off the shelf always gets some clean oil pumped into the top of it. NO DIRT OR ANYTHING CAN GO IN THERE!!! The bearings look like main bearings in your engine, so dirt will destroy them pretty quick!! I've got some pipe plugs that work great for when you have to pull them off.

All good info. I had read some instructions stating that drain pans were needed to catch the oil... . I guess that's why i was surprised when there was not a drop. There was an oily film internally. I'm certain that 300 degree oil drains out quickly. It's working great!

If you don't mind smoke, the M2 pin will work great for overall power. You can trim the profile of the ramp in the AFC, too. That does about the same as a pin... :D

Yes It would work but I believe when you get into the 14's and 12's you have to watch for heat build up when towing .

I chose the 16cm housing over the 14cm for the reason just stated. I tow and haul frequently. I understand the 14/12's are even more responsive tho, if that's what you're after, but monitor those exhaust temps.

If the housing is matched with the appropriate compressor the EGT's will be much lower with a smaller housing, they will be lower with same compressor wheel and smaller housing. A smaller housing will spin the compressor faster and make more boost at the same rpm which will lead to cooler temps, nothing else changing. Towing it needs better air at lower pressures and that will take a compressor and housing change.

The 14s and 12s I have seen were 1. 25" longer than a 16, 18. 5, or 21 because of the wastegate; the non-wastegated 14s also had an exgtended outlet. The downpipe will be pushed against the heater box.

I'm running a PDR-HX35 which is a hybrid from PDR, when Piers was still there, and if I remember correctly the 14cm wastegated was OK at 34 PSI and max at 38 PSI. Since I allowed my '93 to breath better my max boost will max out at about 32 to 35 PSI. With a 2nd gen down pipe, installed by Rip from Sourse Automotive, I had about 1" of clearance so I used some exhaust wrap for about a foot at the exhaust end. It has been on for about 8-10 years problem free.

With my current setup I run at a max of 1000 degrees even when towing 8000 lbs. The Snow W/M does help as the EGTs rise. I cannot get the Snow analog Stage 3 to come on due to EGTs running up Cabbage Hill in Eastern OR. I can bearly get above 900 degree EGTs non towing.
