I have not tested my LP but I am replacing it anyway. I will get one from Cummins since I am sure they are cheaper than dodge. Is there only one, in other words, do I need to just tell them I want a lift pump for a 24 valve, or are there several options?



And the gauge... Genos has the westach for 65. Is this an electronic or mechanical gauge. I would like to stick with the ultra lites since that is what my others are, but autometer says to mount the mechanical ones outside the cab. They are a decent price. There electronic one I found was almost 200 dollars. Have yous guys just been mounting the mechanicals in the cab, or is the westach electronic and just much cheaper?

I put a mechanical on the pillar in the cab and have had no problems with it. Just make sure to use some thread tape on the fittings and it shouldn't be a problem. I know a lot of other guys have this same set up.
 
Lee, I have a Autometer mech. FP gauge mounted outside the cab, on the hood. I put it there only because I wanted something different. It's not isolated nor snubbed, has never leaked a drop of diesel. If you want one in the cab, try to use the braided SS line and be sure to purchase a gauge that will be within the range of your psi's( meaning. . don't install a 0-15 psi gauge if you are seeing higher psi's). You should be just fine. Others have different opinions on in the cab mechanical FP gauges, but mine has been this way for almost 2 years now and I wouldn't hesitate to put it in the cab if I wanted it there.



Forgot to add... I'm using a boost/vac. gauge for my mechanical FP gauge which works for me as I wanted it to read 0-20 psi's. Only downfall is that the gauge face reads "Boost" rather than "Fuel Pressure".

to answer your questions: Cummins guy will want your engine #, thats all he needs to fix you up (and yes they are cheaper and better!!). I have Westach FP gauge and mine uses a sending unit mounted on the fuel filter... . to be honest of all my Westach gauges this one works less than I desire. . (I don't think it reads correctly most of the time)((I have large ground wire from sender to gauge--and large hot--just not happy with it--but short of putting fuel in the cab expect it works as well as others!!)). . Engine serial # for the Cummins guy. Find it on the tag, just front of injection pump, drivers side. I agree, go mechanical, use good line, and if your really concerned about diesel in cab use a gauge isolator. Just my $. 02. :D

My gauge is an Ultralite mechanical in the cab. I used braided steel line. No problems. I like the little disclaimer on the gauge face that says "Do not mount inside of vehicle" - makes me feel like a bad boy!:D



I just had my lift pump replaced by the dealer under the Cummins 100k warranty. They said they got it from Cummins.

GAUGES

LEE I too am very fond of the ultra lites. So I went with the mechanical BOOST gauge in order to stay in the desired range. I also bought the AutoMeter brtaided stainless line worth the money, will last forever and looks good. I posted a simalar question some time ago, I cant remember his name but some guy from Diesel Dynamics replyed that it was OK to use boost gauge. Good luck.





P. S. I put mine in cubby hole next to stereo:)
 
it was just some teflon thread tape that I get from work. I know plumbers use it alot as well as all the pipe fitting for natural gas in your home. Should solve your problem.
