I have heard Dodge has a retrofit pusher pump that replaces the lift pump on 2nd generation p/u trucks. I had 5 lift pumps fail and 2 VP44s before I got off warranty. At 102K my 3rd VP44 failed and Dodge was kind enough to allow me to pay the whole $2,200 tab.

I looked at what was available and put a RASP on the Cummins. It has worked without a hitch for the last 18K. The system is designed to start with the lift pump and run with the RASP. In the event the RASP fails the system is supposed to revert to the original lift pump.

That is my fear as I wouldn't trust the factory lift pump around the block. Is this new pump system a cure or just more crap from Dodge? Does anyone make a good pump that will replace the lift pump without modification of the fuel system?

Any input would be appreaciated.

If you already have the RASP, I would not worry about it. Chances are, that other than at start-up, the lift pump will never run. And this means it will probably last forever.

You may consider relocating the pump to the rear of the truck, but I think it's not neccessary given your current set-up.

Agree with Dave. With the RASP and a leak-free fuel system you most likely don't even need the lift pump anyway.

I just installed a fuel pressure gauge. I have 115K on truck. Never been in the shop. I get 10psi max, 7 to 8 at cruise, and it goes to 0 at wot. Please tell me what to do. Nothing? What is a RASP? New lift pump? Thanks for any suggestions. 2000, 3500, 4x4, 6spd. I usually drive like the old fart that I am. I've always used some type of lube in the fuel---marvel, stand. or kleen

Merry CHRISTmas,

Joe

About like mine. I ordered a Carter 4600 pusher pump from Summit for $89 and am mounting it this weekend on the frame. Based on the FP I'll decide whether to change the factory pump or not. The 4600 is supposed to put out 8psi, so it should keep the pressure in the good range with the old LP.

Oh yeah - I'm also changing out the banjo bolts to a high volume set. Picked up a set from City Diesel.

A RASP is a mechanically driven pump - mounts up front and you get a drive belt along with the kit. Good solution but too many $ for my needs.

In looking at all of the options Ithink I've decided on a rasp system. Is it some thing I would have to take to a shop or would I, with a decent mechanical background, be able to tackle it. I've redone motors & currently a transmission in another vehicle. So I don't think I'm 100% ignorant.

I've read till my brain and vision are blurred. If i am correct the fass mounts near the tank and comes with all new lines and all new less restrictive fittings. I had thought about a new lp---relocating it and a big line kit, but it the fass comes with a big line kit and better pump I think I'll go that route. About $400 (I think).

Good luck with the rasp. I don't think you should have any trouble installing it. (from what I read)

It's always sometnin' ain't it !

Merry Christmas
