Okay, so now that, "I got my Cummins back"... Can anyone tell me how to tell if the original buyer purchased this truck with the "Engine Block Heater" option?

Also, I have heard rumors that even if the option wasn't purchased, it is basically already installed, but needs the cord/plug assembly & that can be purchased separately and easily plugged in and wired as you desire... Anyone have any truth to dispense about any of this???

As always, appreciate any feedback from my own personal, infinitely detailed Owner's Manual (aka TDR Members)? Thanks, guys! ;)

It has the the block heater already installed, just buy a cord and install it. The heater is near the oil filter. That is what the dealer did in my case, my 2011 did not have the cold weather package and I needed it where I live.

Thanks, Matulka!!! Yea, I know you do up there in Cle Elum! I'm originally from between Spokane & Colville. Thanks again! I'll look and see if it's already there and hidden or whether I get to make my first purchase from Geno's!!! ;-) Much appreciate the assist!

I just purchase the one from Geno's. It is a good one but, the last one I had was purchased from the dealer and I accidently left it on my last truck (forgot).

The dealer cord has the cord retainers on it that snap into the frame predrilled holes. Geno's doesn't so I ended up using wire ties to secure the cord. Also, the one from the dealer came with the protective plug cover. Not a big deal but a nice to have.

Okay, so, although it was dark outside & I was using a flashlight, I couldn't see the area on the block, next to the oil filter, where the plug goes... In the humble words of my fellow TDR members, a picture is worth a thousand words... Anybody got a picture of where it attaches on the passenger side of the block??? PLEASE??? Thanks!

Mark

You will either have to remove the air filter tube or go in from the bottom. I don't have a picture.

If you go in from the bottom, the plug is to the rear of the oil filter near the top of the filter.

There will be a plastic cap on the plug that is black and about 1. 25 inches in diameter. You can feel the cap without being able to see it but with a flashlight you can see it from the bottom

Unscrew that, slip the plug (when you buy one) into the connector. It is a two prong (male) on the block and your cord will be a female with a lock screw.

You may have to feel to see the orientation. Mine block connector was turned so that the male prongs were not level so that made the installation a little harder trying to orient the female plug. The thick rubber on the female plug makes it a little difficult to feel when the connectors line up. Once they do, wiggle your cord connector while pushing toward the block and if properly alligned, it will work in and seat completely. Once it is seated, screw the connector lock on the cord onto the block heater to lock it in place. Then route the cord to where you want it for access. I went out thru the bumper to the passenger side tow hook opening.

Thanks!!!

Well, unfortunately, I just crawled out from underneath (because it was WAY easier) my CTD and found that someone skimped on the Engine Block Heater option...

So, I ordered the one from Geno's along with some vent visors and a new TDR receiver cover (my last one was munched by some dumb@$$ in a Pontiac with a heavy right foot)#@$%!. Anyways, all fixed and waiting for the delivery guy now!!! Oo.

Thanks!

MisterBean,

Are you sure it wasn't there? It has a black plastic cap with grooves in the cap. The actual heater element plug on the block appears to be stainless steel. I've yet to see one of these engines come without the heater core installed.

If the cap is not on it, you would just see the stainless screw threads for the mating bolt that holds the female connector in.

Here's the Cummins install pictures showing the location.

No, no, no...

Alan,

The heater element is of course, installed, but because they didn't "PAY" for the option, no cord. That's what I was saying. I found it EXACTLY where you described it to be, looking EXACTLY the way you described it! THANKS A TON!!!

Bottomline, I ordered the Geno's version of the cord and the receptacle, too, along with the vent visors and hitch cover... :D

Again, thanks, Alan!
