Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Quick Acceleration Problem

When I punch the throttle from a dead stop truck pretty much falls on its face then will pick up and go like mad. The truck just rolled 120,000. Fuel pressure guage will be here in a few days (can't afford the rest right now). Have feeling LP is out, but would this cause the lag? Just wondeing what you guys think...

just curious was it always like this ?? my truck always lags a little bit before it builds boost and then goes like mad. just my 2 cents

The truck is a 99 and I got the truck at 89,000 and has always done it. . Sometimes I will be gettin after it in a parking lot and goin like mad, crap out and then take off again. dunno

Does it seem to pick up power, then fall on its face? If it does'nt you can just blame it on turbo lag. If it builds power then falls on its face it COULD be a fuel pressure issue or a failing Vp-44, but not likely. What kind of power upgrades do you have??

Let me re-phrase the last reply... If I don't floor it and just gun it half throttle the truck will take off good and before it shifts outta first gear will sputter and pick back up and shift into second. .

I only have a ATS 3-piece manifold and a 4" straight pipe... Thats it.

Mine did the EXACTsame thing when I bought it, LIFT PUMP was kaput, dropped too low when you stabbed the loud pedal too hard. It hasn't seemed to have damaged the 44 yet, knock on wood!!! I have gauges now!!

Put a gauge (portable) on the VP - schraeder valve

and see what she is reading..... sure sounds like a LP - BUT could be a pluigged fuel filter..... when did you last change it???? Do you have any algae in the fuel?????

Its probably due for another fuel filter but it did it before I changed the fuel filter in last summer... Not real sure how to find out if there is alge in the fuel. . Got fuel pressure guage today, will get hooked up tomorrow.
