Has anyone ordered/received the Quick Check II that just came out from Cummins?

I placed my order with Cummins NW on 7-26 and they told me that it could be 4-5 WEEKS before I get it. They said the price was $239. 4-5 weeks seemed rediculous to me!

What has me confused is that the QCII is available for sale on the cummins website for $299 and it ships IMMEDIATELY according to the Quick Check II product manager that e-mailed me back. Someone is feeding me a line of BS and I am thinking that it is Cummins NW. I am more inclined to believe the product manager vs. some parts guy @ Cummins NW. I don't know why they would be telling me that it is going to take 4-5 weeks when the Quick Check product manager specifically says otherwise.

Just checking to see if any other TDR member was having the same problem getting the Quick Check II. Sometimes it seems like Cummins NW is very disorganized. I have had another occasion similar to this one with them.

P. S. Here's a copy of my correspondence with the Cummins Quick Check II product manager Clifton Cook: (his response to my questions is first)

Hi Steve,

the PowerStore can have the kit to you within two or three days from

the

time you place your order. The time quoted by the distributor is not

correct, it should be more like one week. The demand has been high for

the

kits, however we are now back on track.

Subject: Quick Check II

Mr. Cook,

I placed an order for the Quick Check II through my

local Cummins distributor (Cummins Northwest) on 7/26.

At that time the parts guy that I was dealing with

said that it would probably be about 5 WEEKS before I

got mine. This seems like a very long time to me! Is

this correct? Also, will I get it any faster by

ordering it online through the Powerstore vs my local

distributor? I am planning a long road trip with my

truck at the end of this month and would really love

to have one before I leave to monitor the vitals of my

engine.

Thanks for your help!

I stopped by the Portland Cummins NW branch this past Thursday for some filters and other things. I asked one of the more knowledgeable employees there about the release of the Quickcheck software. He said it was finally out.

They ordered 10 of the kits for that branch and only received 1 of them. Maybe the initial demand is too much for the early inventory levels.

What is the "Quick Check?" Am I missing out on another toy to add to my already outrageously expensive truck?

Dewdo in the other Washington:eek:

I want RoadRelay 4... I have seen it, and it is AWESOME. Only drawback, is you can't use it with an EZ installed... It plugs into the same port.

It would seem to me that Cummins NW is only covering their butts by estimating a longer delivery time. Anytime I accidentally quote a short delivery time, and the part is not there, my customers get really P. O. ed at me.

On the other hand, the price from Cummins NW compared to the Cummins Powerstore seems real odd to me. Reason I say that is because I found out Cummins NW sells stuff 10-15% higher than "suggested list" list price. Why would they be selling it $60 bucks cheaper than the Powerstore? If they got the item right, I'd say $60 bucks is worth the wait.

Whooooo. That Road Relay is too rich for my blood Evan, also given the fact that as you say you cannot run with your EZ. Sorry I asked??????!!!!!!

I Just Got One.

Yup, have been testing/playing with it since Friday! Kinda cool but kinda expensive too!

Evan, the QuickCheckII also plugs into the Cummins bus like the RoadRelay4 BUT... you CAN use it with the EZ... trust me on this one! If you are curious or need info on 'how to' just e-mail me. :D :D :D

Would anyone with a QuickCheck II care to elaborate any more findings on the product. I would also like to know how the cables connect to the truck. Does it connect under the hood or to the OBDII connector under the dash? What type of cable(s) are provided with it?

Also, what is the Cummins bus and how do you connect to it?

What other information does this provide. Can it view/reset trouble codes in the ECM? Sound like it may be another nice toy for the truck.

OK i did some digging and i think i have found where i can get software free (autotap) an buy a converter for $59. 00 this would get you into either the cummins ECM or the dodge PCM depending on what cable you are useing. i already have the software, and have the cable for the cummins on the way. it is a 9pin J1708 it cost $59. 00 too, for the PCM i need a cable that is $44. 00

once I get these I will let you guys know if they work on both boxes. if so we are in. worse case is we need a J1939 converter wich is $249. 00 + the two cables - the other converter.

with this setup we should be able to look at the PCM and CLEAR CODES and also monitor the ECM for the stats the quick link is giving us. i plan touse it with my laptop but we can also get the cables to use for the Palm apps.

goto www.autotap.com to see their software.

and www.bb-elec.com to see the cables and converters.

if this works we could have a scan tool AND quick check for $162 for PC apps and $123 for Palm apps. :D

Todd,

You are on the right way of thinking, but there are a few flaws in what your are trying to do. Unfortunately, the AutoTap software will not work unless you buy it from them. The software was written to only work with their hardware. I tried the free route myself and I could not get it to work.

Also, the only way to log into the Cummins ECM is thru the J1939 protocol. I have been trying to do something similar, but no luck so far. Cummins sells the INLINE II adapter for the J1939 protocol, although I'm not sure of the cost. Also, I was able to download some POWERSPEC software from Cummins that uses the INLINE II adaptor to read and upload certain parameters to the ECM. I plan to go this route myself.

Keep me posted on your progress.

Road Relay 4 with GPS?  Here I thought I would be able to save some money instead of spending it on my truck. Can we say Kah Ching?$$$:D :D :D

Evan,

Would you care to elaborate more on the INLINE II? I would like to know exactly what functions it performs and what information about the engine it provides.

More Information???

IMHO the Cummins website is woefully lacking in information on either product. Is there a spec sheet someplace that lists all of the functions? I would like to get the Quick Check II at least, but the Road Relay sounds cool too. Does Cummins sell anything that the common man could afford that runs on a laptop? I already own a nice one of these, wouldn't have to spring for the Palm too.

More info on the QuickCheckII

OK, let's try this again...

Been outta town and busy!

QCII parameters are as follows:

Equipment ID, Make, Model, Serial No, ECM Part No, Cal Version, Horsepower, Total Eng Hrs.

Live Data parameters:

Engine Speed, Eng Cool Temp, Boost Pressure, Intake Manifold Temp, Eng Oil Pressure, Fuel Rate (mine doesn't work), Percent Engine Load, Throttle Position, Output Torque, Vehicle Speed, Battery Voltage.

Also shows ECM fault numbers and decodes them.

All in all, good for Bombers and everyone else who wants info on what the truck is doing. Unfortunately, it will NOT record live parameters for later playback, you gotta be looking at it at that time. Not that big of deal, but recording would be nice for upgrade differences.

BigCarl64, it connects via the CAN (J1939, Cummins) bus which is a 3 prong 'weatherpak' connector (Edge EZ uses the same connection to send CAN messages for additional fueling).

mdlowry, it will NOT reset fault codes.

Todd T, I have gone the AutoTap route, down the SPX/OTC Genisys road, checked out Insite, etc... and AutoTap did NOT do what I needed. VERY limited parameters for our trucks... may not be a viable option for you.

BigCarl64, I checked out Cummins cables and there may be easier ways to go... that is what I'm working on now.

Shelby Griggs and BigCarl64, I am cuurrently looking to be able to interface with the CAN bus for applications on a laptop or pc, but finding out any info is like hitting your head against the wall. Those who know aren't saying. So... My quest continues.

I want all to know who are interested that when I finally find a viable option not only to read the CAN bus but write also, I will definitely not play games and keep it a big SECRET!!! This board started as a FREE exchange of information to better the cause of OUR trucks!!! I will not make my 'million' from the members on this board!!! You can bet that I believe in the FREE exchange of information, and if what I find out is viable, it will be passed along WITHOUT hesitation. Its too bad that some still want to keep the 'Genie in the Bottle' and make a buck. There are other places to do that, not here!
