When the lift pump ticks, does it ever tick worse or louder when the truck is on an incline or such as climbing a steep hill in 4x4 low?

I have been trying to figure out this ticking noise that comes and goes, but it only happens in 4x4 and when climbing a really steep hill and seems to go away when the RPMs get over about 2400. The truck doesn't stumble any like it is starving for fuel, but could the lift pump make more noise when on a incline like described?

Thanks, Joe

ticking...

My 95 used to tick like that in 4 wheel drive when loaded. It eventually became apparent even with the wheel disengaged as well. I replaced the front axle universals ( the ones inside the steering knuckles) and it went away. It is quite a job to replace them.
