If your question is about the new MOPAR six speed automatic transmission used behind the ISB6. 7 in Ram pickups all indications are that it is much improved over the lousy antique 47/48 series automatics. I have only heard of one failure and that was on a highly modified truck owned by TDR member 2Rowdy.

The Aisin used in the Cab and Chassis Rams is even better in my opinion. It comes with a 180,000 mile warranty and I have heard of no failures. I know of two TDR members who are commercial hotshotters, EB and TulsaOkie who have approximately 250,000 and 300,000 miles respectively on their Aisins now with zero problems. Each of those guys pull large heavy flatbed gooseneck trailers loaded with cargo every day.

I could not agree more. I am very happy with the performance of this unit. Even when I overheated it on a long, slow, and rough climb through the Big Horn pass last fall. Never burned the fluid and never even gave a hint of giving up. Exhaust brake functions flawlessly with it as well. I would do it again with hesitation!

Hey HemiDart....

WOW you are still around!!!

Noticed you are still in Enfield... . not me. . I'm in Oklahoma City now!

Interesting to see your question, I just traded my 98. 5 Ram for a 2010 2500 4WD Cummins on Thursday!

The 98. 5 has 163,000 on the clock, and I decided to take the plunge!

After the initial sticker shock, I managed to work out a pretty good deal!

The new one only has @250 miles on it as of today.

This new Automatic seems to be really well matched to this new engine!

Really strong, good ranges, nice shifts, and you can't argue with the built in exhaust brake.

Hey Larry,

I remember when you moved. I have not been on the board much anymore. Third shift job-sucks the life out of you. Remember the Jardine exhaust fiasco? lol.

Thanks for the recommendations on the newer auto's.

Darren have you worn out the original drivers seat? I get sore after 100 miles but 321K???? Wow!

Ken

Get yourself an Airhawk seat cushion. I've had one for probably over 400,000 miles, just wore it out and my wife got me a new one for my birthday. They were originally made for people in wheel chairs. It is an air cushion that you set the way you want. Believe me, it is well worth the $. Distance Travel Seating Products - The ROHO Store

I have the LTVC model.
