Engine light on 28870 miles

2nd gen owner

Hi,

I've been using this forum as a great resource leading up to purchasing a new Ram 2500. I went to one of my local dealers today and found they had a 2019 on the lot, brand new, 96 miles on the clock.

What are peoples' thoughts on this? Obviously it's still under warranty. (Please don't start down the CP4 path, I've read about it and I'm aware it's a risk, if I buy this I plan to likely run Optilube XPD on every tank). Prior to purchase I'd have them apply all updated software to the PCM/ECM and check for any recalls.

Appreciate everyone's insight.

Have to agree. Jump on the truck and get the MOPAR warranty fight kick scream that it’s part of the package truck and warranty. a
As long as the price is right... These trucks are insanely priced

Appreciate everyone's input, it's about what I thought but wanted to confirm.

I'm still trying to work it out, they are not being very accommodating, and I think I pissed the salesman off because I told him their offer for my trade was ******** and they knew it. Funny thing is, he didn't deny it, just said he's "the messenger". You'd think they would want 2019 inventory off their lot. They aren't moving the way I think they should on price, and they pull all kinds of misleading stuff to show an "internet price" that's not really accurate because they throw every rebate on there even if you don't qualify, and then start taking those away. Even then they should be heavily discounting a 2019 IMO.

I'm on the fence with this dealer anyway. Guy tried to tell me the 2500 had the Aisin. I said nope, it sure doesn't, that's a 3500 HO bud, and way more truck than I need. Told him I'm not keen on what I'm hearing about the CP4 (he didn't know what that was, and claimed he worked for Chrysler for 29 years).

I love vehicles, I've bought several, and this process makes me want to run repeatedly into a brick wall. I swear these people forget there are forums, the internet, etc. When I go to look at a vehicle I know as much as I can about it except what I need to see in person -- how does it feel, sound, etc. You can't get that from Youtube or the forums, you need your butt in the seat And I'm sure as hell not dropping this much coin in something I don't try out. Sad for him, because I'm a sure thing. If I don't get this one, there's plenty more to be had. I'm not in a rush.

Just annoyed. :)

I ALWAYS work the deal on the new one first and say I'm not trading. Then, we get the best deal on it, I decide to work the trade. Recommend you give them an offer in writing with the deal you want... if they say no, walk. I never want ANYTHING so badly that they dictate terms. Don't forget EBAY... I bought my 2009 Ram 4500 on Ebay and I used Ebay pricing to get my 2017 Ram 5500... showed them I found a loaded 2018 on Ebay less than they were asking for the 2017. We got to right price, mine had sat on the lot almost a year and 2019s were close to coming out.

Good luck figuring it out.

Ron

In this case, I'm glad I had them at least run the trade because something popped in CarFax that's not true (and I had no idea, guess I should've checked). So I have to fight to get that cleared as well. That's their excuse on why they're lowballing me, at least now.

In their defense, I wasn't super interested in this 2019 until I realized it *was* a 2019 and I don't think the salesguy realized it was either, until I pointed it out. Not the sharpest tool in the shed. I had gone to look at a different truck.

Check Dave Smith. They are actually knowledgeable about these trucks and will quote you via email. no BS . And they will fly you out to pick up truck. Our local dealership has some very knowledgeable people in service side but the moron salesman that REALLY wanted my 2014 ( I laughed when he told me trade in "value") did not even know what CGI block was. Would rather buy local too. But when I bought the 2014 I tried 3x to get a price in writing from these slippery guys. So I ended up at Dave Smith. Never regretted it either.

FYI, after I bought my '15 from DSM they were bought out by some mega-store, and their pricing is easily beaten. When my buddy bought his 1500 the dealer in Prescott blew DSM out of the water by almost $2K, excluding travel or shipping.

Thats good to know! Will have to check them out if I decide to get rid of the 2014. Really want to see what happens next couple model years though.

Tell them you would like to work with the commercial sales/internet guy! If they do not do that walk. Sounds like the front line guys were flipping burgers last week.

It's amazing how quickly the industry changes even year to year, a year ago I could get a vehicle with a single phone call get a decent deal and be out the door in about 30min for the entire transaction. Lose a few key players in the mix and its back to less than square 0, and this has happened to me 3 times now over the past 7 years.

I'm not dealer specific there is no reason to be anymore, most of it as Ozzy says deal with the internet sales folks no need to walk in and get frustrated.

In the salesperson defense there is a standard duty Aisin you can pair with the 2500 6.4 gasser, but you are correct the Aisin and 6.7HO pairings is 3500.

I would say most TDR users are much more informed buyers, so would be patient with the salesfolks, it really does not pay to be super informed on the ins and outs of all the vehicles you truly have to turn deals as fast as possible and be efficient with the process of getting the deal thru the place vs be a product expert.

Friday and Saturday IMO are the worst days to buy a vehicle, I like the first or sometimes the last Monday of the month depending on known rebates. (Dealers closed on Sundays in NJ, and would add that to the list of I'm not buying) someone else will find those days are the only days they buy. It's all random.

I have gotten good quotes on Friday afternoons and then scheduled all the paperwork for a Monday or Tuesday pick up.

Good luck, enjoy your new ride.

I have a bit of useless info that I've seen referenced ONCE.... Within the Ram Cab and Chassis family, there was an SO and HO Cummins... the SO with the standard trans and HO with the Aisin. I wished I would have saved the info.

Anyhoo, deals can be had, sometimes the buyer has to drive them.

Cheers, Ron

Somehow thought this one was a 2500 with a bed delete, not a 3500 C&C.

Its still sitting at our local dealer its been there since atleast Aug of 2018.

So yeah wrong on that all together, carry on.....

Its not the same unit as behind a CTD for sure.

Which transmission is that?

I am only aware of the 66RFE and the ZF behind the 6.4 in a 2500.

The 6.4 gets an Aisin in a C&C thou.

Well, the original dealer apparently did not want my business. Assuming everything goes well later this evening, I'll be picking my new baby up from a different dealer who knew how to treat customers.

I'm pretty excited.
