quick questions

#1. Does the vacuum pump need any sealant where it mounts to that front engine plate?

The top bolt was loose on mine and I think that is where my oil leak is from. It appeared(in the dark, with a flashlight) that there was a metal gasket between the pump and the plate.



#2. How much oil usage is normal for a 6 week time frame?

The PO told me the truck uses a gallon about every 6 to 7 weeks. Is that possible? Is it normal? I am hoping that the reality of the oil leak has something to do with the loss. I was told the truck left a little spot of oil. It left 5 spots 4" in diameter in a 2 hour period on level ground.

Neither of my Cummins leaks or uses any oil, just put 2300 miles on the 93 in 45 hours this past weekend, one drop off the blowby tube, and it was ran hard. Oil still at the same level as when I changed it last, 7 k miles ago.

I never have to add lube oil. Change every 6,000 miles.

my truck leaks a fair amount from the oil pan. but this is only when the truck is running. when the trucl is off, it hardly drips at all. i believe the vibration of the diesel makes if seep out.
