Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Starting trouble

I know my transmission needs attention, but I am wondering if I can get away with just a TQ converter and valvebody. The transmission doesn't really slip when it's in a gear, but between 1st and 2nd it will take awhile to shift and catch. In gear the transmission has no slip and takes off fast. Is there a possibility that there is something sticking? The transmission fluid looks brand new and the level is ok. The transmission was rebuilt a couple months before I bought the truck (four months ago), and the mod's are 80hp injectors and comp box with no wire pump tapped. The only problem I am having with the transmission is it takes awhile to find a gear under light to medium throttle pedal pressure shifts, full throttle is fine!

Just a quick thought. Did you verify that your "throttle position" cable that runs from the APPS bell crank to the transmission is adjusted and operating correctly?

Chris

Yup, APPS is working good, just got that looked at last time the truck was in the shop last month. I also reset it again last week to make sure that wasn't the problem.

check your kickdown. have someone hold the throttle to the floor while you go under the truck and try to move it by hand. i was told you should not have more than an 1/8 inch or so of movement. My truck has the same problem and I can move mine almost 3/4 of an inch I just havent had time to fix it.

Mine was slipping like that between 1st and 2nd but it was because the bands were out of adjustment. Those sticks and EZ do seem to be a lot for the stock transmission. I have the suncoast triple disk and VB with 100 horse sticks and drag comp tapped and it is doing fine so far.

Tristan

is your transmission stock other than the TC and VB? mine is doing the same thing also but it is stock so is the truck. but i have not checked the adjustments and i bet thats what it is.

Yep all stock minus TC and VB. I had to adjust the bands not too long ago and it has lasted atleast 10k or so.
