I have a 2003 H. O. Cummins in a 2500 quad cab. The thing I like about it is how quiet both the exhaust and engine are, compared to the old 24V anyway. I was wondering if anyone knows of an exhaust manufacturer that builds a decent 4" exhaust that flows well, but remains quiet. I've added an Edge Juice w/ attitude module and plan on many other mods in the near future. I just don't like the overbearing noise of some sytems, you know, the ones with a muffler that is about 2" bigger in diameter than the tubing itself. I don't know if the stock exhuast has too much back pressure for a moderately modified engine. It might not be able dissipate enough heat forcing E. G. T. s too high. Maybe I'm just asking for too much. Anybody's input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Thanks a million guys. That Rokktech muffler is just what I was looking for. $150 isn't to bad either. I couldn't find the Nelson site if there even is one, but it sounds like it would be similar to the Rokktech i. e. : no drone and free flowing.

You guys with the straight through mufflers, are they offset to meet up with the pipes like the stock muffler how is this working out?

Ive seen the MEK and looks like it has an offset.

Thanks, Jim

I was wondering the same thing about a 05 SB bonestock 2WD.

I was thinking about the MBRP but after reading the associated threads here, I may rethink my thinking.

The Rokktech is cheaper and sounds like a better way to go.

Be sure to ask which direction to install it because it can go either way and is more quiet one way than the other, flow is the same.

i just installed a Rokk Tech muffler on my 03 quad shorty with 4 inch mbrp piping and it was LOUD outside the truck at all speeds and would range from tolerable to loud inside the truck depending on speed and load. The next day i put the muffler that came in the MBRP kit on as close to the downpipe as possible with the louver openings facing towards the the front of the truck. It is now as quit as stock inside the cab at all cruiseing speeds and only slightly louder then stock while accelerating hard. Its very quit at idle and has the smoothest tone Ive heard from a common rail while accelerating. the egs might have gone up 20 degrees with the MBRP muffler, but otherweise it performs as good as just the rokk tech. P. S. the rokk tech is very simple and seems to be alot of money for a little product. Its built very well, but i bet you could use the nelson muffler and get the same sound plus saving 90 bucks. Are you running the MBRP and the Rokktech, or did you take the Rokktech off and run the MBRP alone?

Thanks!

Now thats interesting when that muff is suppose to be the most quiet out there other than the OEM.

Ward, last week end I installed a Donaldson M085171 on my truck in my garage. I only have 25miles driving as I have been busy this week with work :{ but I noticed that the idle sound is quite, the air filter clog indicator pulled in a lot less, the turbo seemed to spool up faster, the water temp at 2100 to 2200 RPM was @ 10/15 deg cooler, and the over head display only showed a . 6 MGP difference, between 40/45 MPH and 70/75 MPH, before the difference would be @2/2. 5 MPG. But this is the overhead and only 25 miles driven. I have a PDF on the muffler that I can send you if you are interested.

I couldn't be happier with my MBRP 4" replacement muffler. I have an '03, so the shop had to make some adapters to fit it to my 3. 5" inlet, but there is NO drone and great sound.
