I have never seen any experiment with mufflers and a decimeter on our rigs to determine which lowers the decibles the most.

It is all I run this I run that but with all the diesel forums and diesel mags ect... I have never seen hard proof of an actual muffler comparison on the same rig with and without stacks to see which is the quietest and yet sustains performance values.

I am looking for a 4 inch muffler that will tame my 5 inch single mitre cut stack noise on my 02 quad cab.

Me too while i dont have stacks i want something quiet. Its time for the 5" on my rig to GO. i hate the drone, i dont like how loud it is when i tow heavy loads and i dont like to have to turn up the radio so loud to compete with the exhaust.

I would also like in cab ratings as well. thats where we will hear the difference. to me i dont care how loud it is out side as much as i care about inside

Perhaps not what you were thinking but if you want performance and quiet the best thing you can do is add a second turbo. The performance is obvious and the noise reduction is huge.

yea but what about in the mean time till the money is there. i plan to run twins but not sure about all the other folks here. they might not want that much...

I ran a stock 4" muffler with my twins up to 600hp. Quiet as a whisper. Pulled the stock muffler and replaced with a 22" Diamond eye straight though last year and still very quiet. It's not easy to have your cake and eat it too.

I put a 14" magnaflow muffler on my truck after they told me it wouldn't pass inspection. I was suprised how much it's change inside the cab, now it sounds stock inside. It was the shortest one I could get and it acts more like a resonator than a muffler. If you're looking for a muffler I would recomend this one.

I have a 30" MagnaFlo on my truck... it started quiet, now its not as much. I attribute it to soot loading. When I got it, it was only a tad louder than stock; now it will set off car alarms.

I was recommended to the resonators from FTE. Or the Hushpower mufflers.

On Another forum there are numerous threads and 35+ pages of A++ ratings and not a single bad thing said about the FTE resonator and no muffler at all just monting it as far forward as possible. Every one said drone was totaly gone on many different setups and different rigs and all had the same thing to say. Drone gone in cab but engine sound still there.

Look at this site. . see the muffler on the right. . it is a 4" straight through flow muffler.

JBA Performance Exhaust - Exhaust Systems

That is what I had on my 01 with 350hp and towing a 15K 5th wheel. It is very quiet cruising the streets. . a little louder accelerating with load. . . . high cruise with or without load is not bad.

From my experience as well as the many threads I have read I think the resonator is the best bet if mounted as far forward as possible. I have ran a couple different straight through mufflers to only find the drone extremely loud versus the exhaust tone.
