A long time ago, there were some great instructions on this board from Chad Sheets. I have been unsuccessful in finding them. I have not dohe it firsthand, but, two points come to mind.

First - You need a transmission jack.

Second - You will need to spread the fram slightly to drop the cross member. I think Chad used allthread inside a pipe.

That's all I acn remember, it's been a while.

Hope this helps

Andy

After removing the driveshaft, support the trans and remove the trans mount from the transmission and crossmember and pic up on the transmission pan to remove the mount. Then, take the crossmember to frame bolts out and while picking up the transmission pop the crossmember up until il releases in the frame. Then slide it foreward towards the trans and tilt it untill it clears the sloped framerails and it will drop out of the frame. I've done this 10 times on my truck by myself and it works. To reinstall reverse the procedure and when the crossmember is above the bolt holes you will need two to thre spud wrenches or large screwdrivers to work it down into place along with a carefully operated 3 lb sledgehammer. The jack will need to be a long throw for the height and you'll need to lift the truck about a foot off the ground. Have fun. Mike

Well its done. Took me and a buddy about 7 hours. The warning about the frame spread was great. Had a porta power standing by and without it I do not think I could have put the crossmember back in. Now I have to wait til Tue. and see how it does pulling a load.

Thanks, Karl

torqueflite mods

Well... ...

* B&M transmission drain plug kit. No better time to put it in.

* Transgo shift kit (easier to do than you think)

* Raybestos blue plate special clutches, and kevlar bands.

* Lower stall speed torque converter if you can afford one.

pending

I so far have only replaced my govenor and another part, flushed and changed to new Chrysler fluid.

Need to get off my butt and install transgo valve body kit and B&M drain plug.

done the shift improver kits on torqueflite in my 74 cuda before. easy, and well worth it.

Well IMO the B&M drain pan plug kit is a p. o. s. mine would always seep and you had to be careful not to loosen the jam nut holding the boss into the pan! and that little plug drained fluid down my arm before I could get out of the way!

if I hadn't decided to just get a Mag Hytech pan I would have just welded a nut to the bottom of the pan that fit a regular drain plug and that used a aluminum or copper crush washer.

I went with the Dunrite converter and trans buddy kit so far im very happy with it and if you follow the directions correctly you will be happy! It dosent shift ruff like some of the other big buck trannys builders which is Dunrite's goal says thats what trashs the transmission to begin with and why you need all the spendy stuff to make it hold the power! made sence to me so I went for it! im in it for under a 1k would have been more if I had went to the triple disc clutch Dunrite said I didnt need it for what I told them I wanted to use my truck for.

I did the install my self!! you must read the directions fully before pulling the trans to put the kit in you need to know where your trans shifts! mine didnt need a rebuild so if you need a rebuild thats another deal!

you can also get a complete VB from Dunrite already done if you dont want to chance messing it up!

wow this is getting long sorry!

Gberry,

with that kind of power and those trans upgrades you are holding well? that seems quite resonable for the $ spent.

I'm stock now but want to be around 350 HP. This is a work Truck that has to pull around 10000 pounds a couple of times a week, i do OK on level ground it is the grades that are killing me.

RobertMiller1,

What kind of perf mods have you made?
