6th gear swap???

I have just rec. my new SBC clutch/flywheel kit, and I would really like to do the inst. myself.

I've been an automotive/ mech. (mostly as a hobby) all my life, and have R&R several clutches. (but none with 4whl dr. )

My concern is trying to deal with wt. and bulk of these transmissions and transfer cases by myself.

So my question is, is there anyone, somewhat locally, that would like to save some money, and do a double swap? (You help me, I help you, on our trucks. )

I'm thinking you should be a person that's not afraid to get your hands dirty, and knows the dif. between a nut and bolt. (Maybe I'm the nut?)

Anyway, I've got a pretty good selection of hand and air tools, floor jack, a new HD trans. jack, etc. , and some pretty good mech. skills.

I'm sort of looking at this as an adventure, so if there is anyone out there that would like to join me on this, just PM me.

I'm retired, so I'm relatively flexable on a time frame.

If no one is interested, I will be doing this myself, within the next 3-4 weeks.

Thanks, Ray

Hi Ray-

I've done a LOT of clutches and this was one of the easier ones. I would not be afraid to tackle this on your own with the skill set you have listed. You will need a stout transmission jack as the combined weight of the gear boxes is around 800 pounds. BTW, I left the transfer case attached to the transmission and it saved some time and effort.

Good luck!

Do it your self, Like 100 Proof said get a good trans jack and go for it. I didn't even pull the trans all the way out from under the truck. It took me about six hours by myself. I am in Bakersfield, Ca. If you need help let me know.

i did it with a friend there as an extra set of hands. . 2hrs start to finish includeing rear main seal. .

of course a hoist helps
