Competition Alaska Drag Racing Schedule Released

Are there any guys out there drag racing a 6 spd transmission?I know for a stick a 5 would probally be better because of one less gear to hit, right? But I was just wondering if anyone is using the 6 for goin' fast.

I think plenty of guys are running them, but the FASTEST guys are automatics (or Lenco). With the 3' throw of the 6-speed you lose a bit of time just reaching for the stick!

Yeah they are kinda slow. I was able to muster a 16. 4@85mph at Palmtucky(Palmdale). I tried a third gear launch and the OFE said no way. However I did not run in 4wd everyone says you will pick up ET and drop mph. I am done drag racing my rig though, it is way to hard on components of the manual trucks, at least on the auto's you can pre load everything instead of just dropping the hammer. Just my $0. 02.

How about the crappiest traction ever, hotter than haites in the summer, colder than you know what in the winter, and some of the wierdest quirks of any track around. They direct guys to drive through the water box, do a burnout and then stage in the water you laid down from your front tires, because you cannot cross the start line doing a burnout.

I race mine.

I drag mine but I have a dual disk. With stock tires or better gears you could launch in 3rd in 4 hi but I have 37's and 3. 55 gears but I was turning 15 flat before the the new turbo and injectors.

T. J.

I ran a 14. 5 before the Ht turbo, and the quad downloader. Second gear 4-hi launch at about 3000rpm. Had to move the seat forward a little to be able to hit 3rd after take off. Anxiously waiting for sled puller then back to the track. Lee.

this video is a little dated but the truck is a 6speed with a dual disk clutch at the time. . Its 01_ho

Is that a 3rd gear launch??

The correct answer is nobody is going fast with a straight shifter. I can tell you for sure , not me.

I beg to differ. You must have not watched the video in the above post? Or seen Jeff prince run 11's with a 5-speed?

My last outing at the track, I was the only 5-speed. 2 autos were faster than me, and 4 autos were slower.

Its not how big your stick is, its how you use it! :-laf

I believe he is now running an automatic, but I could be wrong.

Do you know anything about the trucks that you beat, cause if the 16. 3@88 time in your signature was what you were running, that won't beat any automatics that I have ever seen.

I,ve done 14. 7 with my 99 5 spd QC duallies. That was with only 400 rwhp/900 tq. My current truck ran a 15. 1 with only 350 rwhp/800tq.

He (01HO) is driving an automatic now. But even worse he is driving a Chevy. :-laf But it is a pretty sweet truck, and don't forget it's all about the comfort.

Soooo, to qualify this a little more, two identical trucks racing same time, same place, same driver, same tires, same gears..... the truck with the bombed auto SHOULD beat the truck with the bombed clutch manual. I'd bet your paycheck on it!

I believe Jeff is running an auto now too, but I think he still ran 11's with a 5-speed.

yes I do know about the trucks I beat. Our strip is at 5300' altitude. I have whats in my sig. the fastest truck here by far is a 96 CTD, runs 14. 1. that is unheard of to these guys here (except Joe D). the other trucks that were autos either had a just a plate and exhaust (same as me) or they were 24V with an EZ or something. the next fastest to me was a 6. 0 psd, he ran 17. 1 and was on 35's.

New Mexicans think a diesel is for work and work only. they dont understand why you'd want a fast diesel. So, we are in great lack of fast diesels around here.

I agree that same tires, gears, hp an auto will win if it has some stuff done to it.

Exactly. . ALL about the comfort. :D

can't wait to sit in a mega cab. that may push me toward the 3rd gen, but I still like the 5-speed auto trannies for towing and wife's abilities... :-laf :-{}

Hmmmm, then I can go to 40" mudders, triple turbos, mach eleventy-seven injectors :D

I know this thread is a month old but i just wanted to say i ran a new time of 13. 7 @ 99mph with my six speed last weekend its not that hard to shift a 6 speed fast my stock clutch was slippin but im puttin in the con fe next week so well see how it goes after that
