Competition Racing in 4WD?

Guys that are racing their daily drivers at the dragstrip, I got a question for ya.

Is it hard on your transfer case running up to and over a 100mph? I always understood not to run over 55-60mph in 4-high.

Do you have to modify it, or short bursts in straight lines not to hard on them?

Short straight line runs arn't hard on it. It is the boosted lauches that test everything. I pull it into 4wd just as I am rolling up to the line and kick it out as I am slowed down and still rolling straight just before turning to the driveback lane.

I used to push ours out of 4-hi after the 2-3 shift. Even though the front hubs don't disengage, it stops putting power though the TC to the front axle.

I run it the whole 1/4 mile in 4x4 and shift it out after the finish line. As said above the launch is the hard part. Try to adjust your tire pressures so that the 4x4 system is not binding going down the track.

as long as your going in a straight line, no, I dont think it is hard on it
