Competition How bad will 35s hurt my 1/4 mile?

OK you brothers from another mother, sisters from another mister! Let's RACE:D

The wheels have been set in motion to create a DHRA/Diesel Drag Race at Rocky Mountain Raceway in Salt Lake City Utah.

The date is not certain yet, but July is the month targeted.

Edge Products is online to sponsor this event.

Anybody have any comments regarding the date?

We are inviting Ford, Chevy, Dodge, MBZ, come one, come all.

Help make this event a success by participating:)

I will try and get the date on Monday. It sounds pretty cool!!!! Well OK July is HOTTTT here in Utah. But maybe all the black smoke will block out some of the sun light.

Thanks for every thing Nowell!!!!!

Just let us know of the date. I had done 1 race there when they were doing the street drags. (cars, etc)

I have a 4 wire bluebox and a vanatkin box. 4" ex. have AT tires but cool induction for intake. I think 350hp and 800 tq.

Date Option

Drawson, should we look for a date later in the summer to avoid the heat? What about September?

Even in Sept we can have 100 + deg weather or it could also snow. This is the High dessert. It is a dry heat!!! LOL

Nowel & Dee... . maybe have end of May after May madness or first of June???? We can incorporate into a Dyno Day at Edge, possible truck pull also!!

Date Option

Eric McBride is working with a fellow at the track to make this happen. We are at the mercy of their schedule. I'd just as soon

miss that 100* heat, wet or dry  I'll see what our options are. Good thing the "Rocket" still has AC:-laf

dhra/slc

this sounds great. i went to an event last year and inquired about such an event, they had'nt even heired of such a thing as drag trucks.

get the date set and everyone here, I'm sure, would help with advertising or what ever. go get=um black smoke.

Heads Up Racing?

OK, looks like we have some eager participants.

It's a good ways out yet, but how do you guys feel about heads up racing as compared to brackets. In heads up we would have several indexes. For instance we might have a open class (13. 0 and under), a 13. 0 index, a 14. 0 index, a 15. 0 index, and so on. In this case you would pick the index you run in and do the best you can without breaking out into the next lower index. I kinda like this myself.

The other way to run things would be to handicap everybody and run brackets. This can get kinda sneaky with a 12. 0 truck running a 13. 5 dial in. Then try not to break out. Brackets are where you see one guy leaving before the other to compensate for the different dial in times.

You guys have any opinions on this?

I kinda like the first one best too, I would hate to be a quarter way down the track( and heaven forbid )a flipping ferd pass me. hehehe ;)

This sounds like a great idea. Usually the heat isn't too bad around here in early june. Although you never know, The heat isn't too bad because the humidity is usually really low. Other than that I would say mid september is usually about the nicest weather around here.

Yes yes, index race!! Oo.

I run about 16 with my shell and everything... .

Put me on the list to be notified when things get set

Dee,

Even at 100 degrees, what's the humidity? We race here in July and August and have to suffer a . 2-. 3 time difference because of the humidity. Hot humidity kills worse than altitude ever will. What's September like in SLC?

Humidity

Eric, When we came through Kansas earlier this year we became up close and personal with humidity. Once we got to Ogden we were able to breath again. Like Dee said, it's high desert so the humidity seems much lower then east of the rockies.

Heads Up Racing

Sounds like most would favor a heads up indexed system. Cool:cool:

I was informed that the Truckfest event at Bandimere raceway in Colorado is set for the 27th of July. This may be further reason to set the SLC event for September. This provides some breathing room around each event If the events are too closely scheduled then some folks may need to choose one since they can't make both. And we want as much attendance as possible at all the events.

slc racing

as for as humidity goes, July and August this past year was a low of 8 to15%, September usually 15 to30%, evenings 25 to 35%, maybe. we get a evening breeze of the great salt lake some times and this cools things off. have to see what it brings.

hot days cool nights mid of Sept. to mid Oct. bring it on we can handle it.

Simpler

I figured doing one or the other would be a good way to streamline the operation. Less confusing. Plus, I think it's more fun to go heads up with another truck with approx the same power level. Both trucks leave the line at the same time and should be close most of the way down the track. And I don't think most folks are polished up on racing brackets. It takes more concentration and practice. With enough trucks in the field we can run a open class, 13's, 14's, 15's, 16's, and over. We'll line um up in the staging lanes that way. Get some competition going, maybe some fights:-{} , trash talkin and stuff;)

What would the advantage be going with brackets for the average Joe? What's going to be best for the greater number of participants?

I talked to Geoff today and the final date was still up in the air in the AM. Eric will probibly be the first to know the date. The later in the year we get the more possibility of some thunder bumper. It very rarely get above 35% Humidity up here. To keep cool you just take a motel towel and dip it in your cooler with ice water and wrap it around your kneck. It really isn't that bad!!!!
