The local diesel mechanic of many years told us that our low mileage 94 12v dodge diesel probably has a rack that is sticking when it gets hot. Symptoms are hesitations, feels like the throttle sticks and ends up stalling out, and will so far start back up. He says this is a common problem with the p7100 pump. And the only way to tell is to take in apart. So do you guys beleive him? We are gonna have him rebuild to pump up to 215-230hp with the stock fuel plate for around $1300. THe truck has 90k miles, the reason we bought this truck was to have a reliable injection pump. and guess what, the thing barely made it home the first night we had it. So we were kinda let down because i read how reliable these pumps are.

I haven't heard of that one. Maybe someone else has. You might want to check with someone else to get another opinion. If we knew where you live a TDR member might be able to look at it or recommend someone.

Check for the throttle linkage sticking and throttle cable for it fraying. Also check the linkage for the shutdown solenoid. It could stick also.

Check for recall #970. http://dodgeram.info/tsb/recalls/970.htm

Unlees the pump ACTUALLY needs to be rebuilt, I wouldn't take it off. Just put in a different plate and/or bigger injectors. And bump the timing to 15*.
