best info/reviews

I've had two different models of the escort/passport. Currently have the escort 8500.

This website reviews most everything and highly recommends the escort line and the bell electronics. I believe that buying the top of the line in these products is money well spent.

The one I have now is great. I've literally detected the 'bad guys' from 5+ miles out.

I have also had many different brands over the years. The valentine one is far and away the best. After using it now for about year and a half, it has been well worth the extra money spent on it. The other detectors don't even come close in performance and defensive information given by the display of the V1.

I would recomend you get a BearTracker from Uniden.

They work just as good/better than a detector. I got a BCT-7 and I love it. I needed the more compact one w/ less features. I got mine used for about 100 bucks at a local CB shop.

What about the Radar Detector/Jammer??? Anyone have or use one of those things?? I heard they are banned in some states.

Jammers are illegal whether its expressly by statute or just a plain violation of the POP law... . '******* off the police'

I just bought an Escort 8500. I did ALOT of research and Escort and Bell seemed to be at the top. You may not want to hear this opinion but Rocky Mountain performed very poorly against all competitor's.

From what I saw, NONE of the radar "jammers" work and there is a radar detector testing company that will pay you 5,000. 00 dollars if you can provide one that actually works. I'll see if I can find the link later and you can take it for what it's worth.

I bought a radar detector last year after a couple of tickets. I just could'nt stay out of that HEMI. I did some research and decided the one to go with was the Escort 8500. It was rated #1 in all the test results I saw, even better than the highly rated Valentine One.

After a year I would not be with out it. It has saved my ass many times, not one ticket since.

Valentine1

Anybody else getting tired of the Valentine1's laser band detector going off? I've heard some vehicles have equipment on them now that set these off. I don't know what the deal is, but it is getting so bad, I'm tempted to send it back to the manufacturer and ask them to disable laser detecting.

Sounded like a good idea at first, but since laser is a line-of-sight gun anyway, if you get hit for real, you're already too late.

Other than that, I've been real happy with it.

Mine goes off sometimes when I use the remote control for the Garmin 2610.

Mine has to be 6yrs old or so ... wonder if there is a mod / upgrade.

V1 Laser

The laser warning on my Valentine One drives me absolutely nuts sometimes. Frequently I can connect it to sun angle (using the windshield washer when driving into low afternoon sun is a surefire trigger), but other times there is no discernible light source that seems likely, and yet it will still go off every few seconds.

I was on V1's web site recently, and they have a FAQ with instructions on how to disable the laser feature yourself--I'm sorely tempted.

on edit: You beat me to it--see what I get for keeping the post open for a while before replying?
