I'm looking at replacing my radiator cap. When I went to the auto parts store all they had were Stant brand caps rated at 16 psi. Apparently that is the cap recommended by Stant. The original cap is rated at 15 psi. Does anyone know if the Stant p/n 10230 (16 psi) cap is the right cap? Will it work w/o causing damage?

Thanks,

PK

I ran into the same thing when I went to replace the one in my 97 this year. All NAPA had was a 16. On a lark I called the Dealer and not only did they have one in stock, it was a few cents cheaper then NAPA - go figure! So I just got the one at Dodge and have been happy ever since. You might try your local dealer on this one

Use a 13PSI cap. When I had my radiator recored the really old radiator guy let me in on that secret. I've put 13PSI caps on everyrthing since then and no failed radiators. I've towed 12k in 100F heat with out any issues. I'm sure some arm chair engineers will take issue (they always do) but I've used this trick for perhaps 200,000 combined miles in 3 Rams and no problem and no leaking radiators.
