More 48re issues (1-2-1 shifting)

I have an 04.5 with the factory antifreeze, cap, thermostat, and water pump.. I checked the coolant integrty and the boiling point is 286 deg and the freeze protection is - 45. Truck never runs hot, heat works great etc.. The guestion I have is I can lay my hand on the radiator cap after diving at 70 for an hour and it's barely warm? The top hose is hot and pliable, the bottom hose is warm. I came across this by accidentally laying my hand on the cap, which surprised me. Any thoughts?

Not unusual at all. The thermostat will only allow for enough coolant flow to maintain the engine operating temperature. So, if the engine is under a light load and the ambient temperature is cool, the radiator is not going to be doing a lot of work.

Because the radiator cap is on the opposite side of the radiator from the inlet hose side, lots of heat will be removed before the coolant ever reaches the radiator cap side.
